Reach's Grifball is *still* Toxic

Boosting has always been a problem in Reach’s Grifball playlist, but it’s only been the past few years where it’s been nearly impossible to find matches where people actually play the objective. I made a post about this a year ago https://forums.halowaypoint.com/t/reachs-grifball-is-toxic/395107 which was the last time I played OG Reach MP. I subbed to a month of Gold to play out the remainder of the 360 games’ life cycles, and made the mistake of trying Grifball. First game was mostly boosters, but at least my teammates didn’t spawn-betray me for daring to play the objective. Second game was all boosters and spawn-betrayers. Quit after a minute.

I have no idea why they never put a 10 betrayal limit in Grifball or something. Obviously some betrayals in that mode are hard to avoid or even necessary from time to time, but at a certain point it’s easy to detect when the betrayals are intentional.

As for boosters themselves, it’s pretty pathetic that they have nothing better to do with their lives than stay all but AFK in a 10 year old game to grind for a helmet that they could get in 20 hours of gameplay if they bought MCC.

Thankfully Team Slayer is fine because there aren’t incentives built in to do these kinds of behaviors.

And it is for this exact reason why it is a rotational playlist in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It’s just a pure toxic mess. It’s quite uncommon to actually match against people who actually want to play the game.

Has there ever been a game of Grifball that wasn’t toxic? Survey says: no.

This thread brings back spine shuddering memories of the times that I spent trying to play Grifball in OG Reach. That place was an absolute cesspool of toxic individuals. To anyone who may read this on this side of the sunset, for your own sanity sake, stay away from Grifball over there.

I tried few Grifball matches on the MCC. Quite long ago. Hadn’t touched it since, for that reason. Its just Slayer with Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords basically.
