Reach's Demise

Looking at how this game is now and looking at how ALL of the previous online multiplayer Halo’s were I think it’s pretty safe to say that this game will soon die. With these new releases coming out this fall (MW3, BF3, GOW3) this game really stands no chance holding a respectable population. Hopefully 343 will do something to bring back some original feel and gameplay. I’m not sure if anyone remember’s the classic Halo that everyone used to know and love because they have been so corrupt with everything being customizable. What happened to having to fight for something in Halo instead of just having something given to you (In this case abilities).

I have been playing Halo for a little less than half my life and I hate to see it end this way. When you see someone flying around in a jetpack and using armor lock it just doesn’t seem anything like Halo should be. And along with that the addition of weapon bloom. I think both of these factors have led to something that classic Halo players just don’t want to experience.

Finally, and the thing that I have a problem with the most is the Reach ranking system. Like come on. There is no competitive feel to this game anymore. No one cares to try and win. All they care about is earning credits because they think that having a higher credit rank makes them better than someone else. Realistically credits don’t. Halo 3’s system had both a TrueSkill rating and an exp system. To my belief it was far more efficient at holding a person’s interest, keeping a competitive feel, judging a person TrueSkill, (all of which contribute to holding a population of over 300k many months into the game). Must I go on…

343 fix the error’s that Bungie has left behind for you to repair otherwise this game is just going to die out.

Thanks,
GameBoyeas

I’m with you.

Trueskill failed big time too. A lot of people were just second accounters. They need to make a new ranking system that is harder for people to cheat.

It was Bungies last Halo Title, It’s common business sence to cash in on the last title ( Sellout ) Wonder why in the trailers they used words like " Going back to the core of what made Halo CE the phenomenon that it is " To attract the hardcore fans and phrases like " You wanna fly? you wanna go invisible? you wanna turn to stone? " to capture the casual crowd, they made the game to sell at its maximum rather than play at its maximum.

lol Doomsayers. Some people have saying this since three months of the game coming out. Halo has a consistent fan base and they tend to weather the storm of new games. Besides, CEA is coming out with a bunch of new maps. You don’t think Halo fans will be playing them? You’re such a goof.

I am not sure if bringing a more classic experience to Reach can cut it in terms of keeping a population. I think that we as Halo fans must understand and accept the fact that we are no longer top dogs.

And in some ways that doesn’t even matter but in others it does. It is bad in the sense that Halo (as it pertains to community) will have a more condensed feel. But it is also a good thing in the sense that if the developers (343) realize this then they won’t feel so inclined to appeal to the masses thus giving the more loyal fans the Halo feel we all love.

So there are advantages and disadvantages to each.

Couldn’t agree more OP. Bungie just made Reach as a cash cow attempt before they start working on their next project. I love them for creating the series… but Reach is NOT Halo, nor were they even trying to really make it as good or better then Halo 3.

H3 TO ME was the Swan Song truly from Bungie. That’s where they sat down… took H2 and balanced every aspect of it, and polished the MP experience beautifully. And seeing as H2 is now deceased on XBL… H3 is the next best thing if you don’t want to play Reach.

Again agreed on every point you’ve made…

I totally agree. the game dosen’t feel right, and it dosen’t matter if you compare Reach to H3 or H2. There are few arguments that come everytime I read a discussion about Reach. Want to be invisible? Improve to win a fight over Active Camo. Want to get a 2nd chance? Improve to get OS. I don’t know what I’m gonna do if they shut down H3 and leave Reach on its last days. I don’t know what I’m gonna do if Halo 4 turns out to be the same in the multiplayer part as Reach. Competitive genes are dying in the series slowly and sadly we’re gonna die with them and the worst thing is I love this game. I love to have a good competitive time with other people, but I want to play with them on the same rules.

Halo is the only reason I bought Xbox/X360 and many people have the same… so don’t fakin’ leave us with nothing - give us HALO, not halo.

Read “a very good solution” in the forums I think it’s a good Idea

If the community wants to go play another FPS then they’re entitled too. As of August 1st, Reach is still #3 most played game on XBL and has 100,000+ people playing almost anytime of the day.

Personally, I don’t see this game dying until well after Halo 4 is released.

Halo Reach lost the top spot to Blops & MW2. For those that remember, H3 traded the number one position a couple of times with MW2. So, this trend started way before Reach dropped. Making a game that’s going to pry people away from MW2, Blops, and MW3 is going to be rather difficult. Going back to the “roots” may not be the answer. The competition has gotten stiffer every year.

Don’t forget COD did get an upper hand in commercial advertising, so thousands of kids and people saw those commercials and wanted the game.

I saw that commercial too, i wish they would have made that place in the commercial a real map. :frowning:

Yeah pretty much, I LOVED Halo CE/2 and liked 3 at times and can’t stand Reach MP… This is why i’ve moved on to other games until the TU hopefully makes Reach MP fun :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder if reach will sink to 4th place behind MW3 then CODBO, MW2

Wouldn’t that be hilarious?

Halo: Reach has been dead since the second week. Hopefully the patch will make it possible to play without raging.

I’m waiting to see how the population drops in the fall. I have a feeling it’ll lose a good amount of ppl. Look at these games coming out.

Deus Ex: HR, Gears 3, MW3, Battlefield 3, and of course Skyrim.

The Arena that shipped did just that. Maybe that’s why it failed?

I’m finding it hard to have reasons to play this game. Sure I’m decent at it, but really, there’s no incentive in this game. It’s a year old so there aren’t any more surprises. Played enough of the new maps from the DLC, which probably wasn’t even worth the money because those maps are locked in the Premium playlists. Arena only has slayer, which can become a bore. Matchmaking is god awful when you go in by yourself, since there the average Reach player doesn’t go for the win. Without a 1-50 this game doesn’t have much of a reason to exist.

At this point, I’m considering my options. I may check out the dreaded Black Ops or even try out World of War craft since I hear that game has dedicated servers and actual competition.

Dude, Reach will be blown right out of the water with the releases of those games. It will be sad to see, but the game designers of Reach fully deserve it. You’ll see the numbers drop for the unique player per 24 hours. Think back to when this game was first released. 900,000 online at a time in its first week. There’s just better things out there for the online player. Reach falls well below what else is available.
