So did you guys like reaches ranks and would like to see them in 4 or are you more interested in a halo 3 rank style
inb4Halo3rankingsystem
i like the ranks in reach, but it was (and is) painfully slow to level up without some help (like Custom challenges, or party boosting)
Although Reach’s ranking is abit slow, it is much better overall compared to H3.
I kinda liked reaches way of ranking up it told you how far youwere from getting to the next though it should require a certain skill level to
halo 3 rank style, would be good if in halo 4 the ranks were reset every 6 months or so
Why not new ranks?
> halo 3 rank style, would be good if in halo 4 the ranks were reset every 6 months or so
thats not fun at all infact it would be very boring to be the same rank all the time more ranks sound better. I would never want to have rank resets EVER!
Without a doubt in my mind; the old Halo 3 ranking system.
(I don’t care for the playlist ranks being visible)
I used to appreciate seeing my rank next to my name at all times and trying to work out a gameplan based on their players highest skills with whom I’d need to try and avoid contact with.
However, if anything… the ranking system should be made harder. If each playlist is ranked individually, instead of a Highest Skill (with an obvious flaw like boosting) the ranking should be based on Average Skill.
For example;
Team Slayer 50
Team Snipers 21
Team Objective 1
Lone Wolves 4
Squad Battle 10
Big Team Battle 1
You’d be running on around 14 or 15 Average skill level, which is pretty low. It’d stop people boosting accounts up (because it’d simply take too long) and the skill curve would actually match your skill at the game a lot more accurately than the Highest Skill system in Halo 3.

How is it boring? ranks are reseting every 6 months or even less so you won’t be the same rank for ever, it will give you another chance to achieve the maximum skill, also it will prevent people from buying 50 accounts.
Arena on the other hand was very poorly introduced, it was not competitive in the least and failed as a rank system.

I have to agree with Proximate.
What would be the point in a ranking system at all if it’s stripped from you every 6 months?
You’ve just said Arena ranking failed, and that’s pretty much why it failed. The rank was removed from your service tag every few weeks so you had to re-earn it again to lose it again. The ‘rating’ system alongside it never really did anything to contribute either.
A rank-resetting system would just annoy a hell of a lot of the players who take Halo games seriously. It’d probably be considered too close to ‘prestige’ mode on COD games as well, even though it’s involuntarily forced upon people and there’d be no way to recognise what ‘prestige’ you are. Basically, you’re implying they create an infinity ranking system with which there are no perks to achieving a higher rank at all…

That is totally incorrect, did you even read my post? :s
I want 1-50 system
The Halo 2 ranking system was better.
> The Halo 2 ranking system was better.
Not just better, it was the best.
Reach’s rank system is awful, and absolutely no skill is involved.
> The Halo 2 ranking system was better.
I like this guy. That was a good system. I played people that were the same as me. Average players. In reach I get bad players or better then me player rarely same level players.
I didn’t particularly like either, but Halo 3 had a better rank system. At least it gave you an estimate of how good your team was rather than just how long they played.
reach’s ranking system sucked balls. I’m pretty sure a big chunk of this forum would agree with me. I preferred halo 3’s over reach’s, but neither of them are perfect.
Have Reaches credit system for buying stuff.
Have ranks for skill.
By ranks do you mean ranks like Leutenant Colonel and Hero or do you mean the actual ranking system?
I’m pretty sure the Halo 3 ranks were the Marine’s ranks while Halo Reach’s ranks were mostly Army Ranks, then it went on to Field Marshall and stuff.
I’d prefer a good mix between the Halo 3 and Reach ranking systems. Have the 1-50 rank, but make it so you can just rank up like in Reach.
Halo 2’s ranking system was the most accurate when it came to putting you against players of equal skill.
Reach’s system is just useless. It’s based on games played and unlockables.
