Reach.

Honestly, this game is beyond saving. It’s the worst Halo game of all time, and somehow Bungie managed to turn away the majority of the serious population the series had before this game. I’m not even going to talk about the long list of problems of this game in the OP, as they have all been talked about in serious depth before. Bloom, Armor Abilities, the lack of a true ranking system, etc. Everything in this game that provides a crutch for bad players. This game was doomed from the start, and there is really nothing 343i could do to save this game.

However, 343 Industries, I applaud your efforts in trying to save this game, but it’s too little, too late. This game was not made to be a true Halo game, and even though you had the right idea with the TU, you can not make a good game out of a game as bad as this. However, I will say this TU made me more confident in what you are going to do with Halo 4. You guys were going in the right direction.

To everyone complaining about the Vanilla Reach settings being slowly removed (I’m not calling out anyone specific here.) please just be quiet. You guys are the reason 343i has no idea what to do to satisfy the community with Halo 4. Over half of the posts I see supporting Vanilla Reach do not even contain correct grammar, and Reach is your first Halo game or you barely played Halo 3. Please realize the Title Update was not made for you, but instead people who have played Halo for a longer time. It’s great you like Vanilla, go play it in customs and go play Living Dead, Action Sack, and Grifball in matchmaking. I can promise you those won’t be affected by the Title Update, and those playlists are for those who don’t like the Title Update. However,in my opinion, every other playlist should contain the Title Update settings.

I write this sloppy, unorganized rant because I will admit Halo:Reach is a good game. It’s not a good Halo game, but it is a good game. However, at this time two years ago, before this game came out, I expected this game to be GREAT. This game was supposed to be the swan song of Bungie’s Halo, giving us robust Forge and custom game options, as well as being able to share and find these easier than we were ever able to before, and many other features new to the series. However, Bungie forgot about classic Halo gameplay. Reach is not fun.

How can 343i make Halo 4 better? Disregard EVERYTHING from Reach. Either make Halo 4 more traditional to say Halo 2, or take it and spin it in a whole new direction. All I know is, I want a sequel to Halo 3, not Reach. Even people who are not huge Halo fans that are friends of mine, all agree that they really don’t like Reach and we still play Halo 3 every once in a while.

While I realize this rant isn’t very specific about a lot of the complaints here, this is a summary of how I feel about Halo:Reach, its community, and what Halo 4 should be. I honestly don’t even know what to make the subject line, but I feel like I had to get my opinion out there. 343i, please take note. I do this, because I love Halo, and I want Halo 4 to be great, and live up to the lofty expectations I and many others have set for it.

If you read all this, I applaud you. If you have an opinion or just something to say on the subject, whether it’s in agreement with the OP or not, please, by all means say it. That’s what forums are for. Peace 343 community.

You have voiced everything that I agree with! The TU is the reason I still play Halo, aside from the epic BTB games with friends, those never get old! Alot of my friends feel that vanilla reach is better than Anniversary, they say it’s too much of a one gun game now. I love having a starting weapon that can do some damage but at the same time, you will do much better holding a power weapon or controlling the overshield and camo. Just like the classic Halo gameplay I loved in H1, H2, and H3.

Thank you man. I haven’t played Anniversary settings really, but I agree. I think you need a versatile weapon off of spawn such as the DMR or magnum, as it’s very frustrating having a weapon like the AR off of spawn, but that’s another subject for another day. I agree with you, Halo should be about map control and power weapon control as well individual skill in stuff such as one on one encounters, and bloom didn’t do any favors to that, as gun battles became very random.

I agree with most of your post/rant lol.

> Either make Halo 4 more traditional to say Halo 2, or take it and spin it in a whole new direction.

However, wasn’t Reach also taking it in a new direction? I mean Halo 4 will undoubtedly have new additions. But let’s say 343i does take it in a direction, what if people react similarly to how they did Reach? (which more than likely will) The forums will be filled with new complaints nonstop because chances are the game will not please everyone. I’m sure there are quite a few people that are expecting Halo 4 to be like 2/3, then when they realize its not what they expected but instead a “new direction” they will go crazy.

What I’m saying is, yes they should go in a new direction, it is a fresh new trilogy after all, but that people should be wary not to heighten their expectations or it might come back to bite them. It should definitely “feel” like the original trilogy but should have something new of its own (It won’t be an exact replica of CE/2/3). We should just be patient and see what 343i has in store for us.

Regardless of what 343 does with Halo 4 I will still play it and enjoy it. I do enjoy Reach for it’s change of pace but at the same time crave that old style. I just don’t think it should be so hyped up because odds are there will be let downs and it will fall short of the consumer’s ridiculously high expectations lol.

Fulm1nous Edge, you bring up a very solid point.

I believe Halo 4 should be it’s own, while maintaining the gameplay of classic Halo’s. I know that doesn’t make too much sense, but here is how I see it:

I do not mind change, as long as that change will compliment skill and good decisions in Halo 4. Trust me when I say, I definitely gave Reach and it’s changes a fair shot before I determined my opinion on it.

In a simple way, change is good when it is a good change that adds something to the game, without changing it too much and keeping the majority of the rules of the gameplay intact. In my opinion, Bungie failed to do this.

Again, I’m doing this because I want to see Halo 4 at the top. I want it to be at the top of online gaming and gaming in general. I LOVE Halo, don’t get me wrong. Just because Reach was a disappointment doesn’t mean I’ve given up all hope. If 343i succeeds in making a Halo game that is just plain FUN and competitive, and manages to bring back the population and buzz Halo had back years ago, all will be forgiven in my eyes.

I’d also love for Halo to be at its rightful place on top. Hopefully 343i can find the perfect balance of classic gameplay and change for Halo 4 that Bungie unfortunately didn’t quite find for Reach. Perhaps the greatest achievement Halo 4 can accomplish would be bringing the divided community back together and like you said just to let everyone have fun. Good luck 343i.

Its not up to 343 its up to us to stop being so divided… I personally like Reach much better than the first 3 (Technically last 3 chronologically). I think sprint was MUCH MUCH MUCH needed in this game. I could even see them adding ADS but then again, “This isn’t Halo” by some peoples’ standards. But if they do away w/ sprint and many of the things I like about Reach believe me you won’t see me on the Halo 4 forums a year and a half after the game has been released complaining / arguing the same argument DAILY about why I don’t like it. I’ll either play it and deal w/ it, play Reach, or play something else.

This post / thread is so old… I think it would be better if we just copy and paste this same old boring argument every morning @ 8am and then a thread titled, “Why Reach is great” that is well written. Would be the same thing and save the OP time… Am I the only one who sees how stupid and unhealthy this is…?? Its possible to be VERY passionate about video games w/ out it more or less consuming your mind if you don’t like something. Its bad emotional health to do otherwise. I did it w/ Goldeneye Reloaded which I bought a PS3 for and it turned out to be crap compared to the Wii version. Complained for a month and then moved on…

I’m a Halo fan too… and this, “Lets make it more traditional like H2 or H3” sounds TERRIBLE to me. So that voice is NOT the whole community and I know plenty of people that agree w/ that so just because some have a few friends who don’t like Reach doesn’t mean everyone does. This more or less reminds me of a Republican / Democrat debate… and its awful lol…

smh,
reach tried new things that didnt work the way they were expected to.
the TU fixed many things and arena will be updated in days.
reach is the complete package of halo content. stop complaining.

I’m not here to discuss Reach’s flaws because they are known and continuously debated. I would love to have a discussion of things we can add and possibly help Halo 4 be the best it can possibly be. Halo is near and dear to my heart and nothing will change that. I will also say I love the fact that sprint was implemented. I just don’t think we should give up that ability for something else lol. We are super soldiers that have to decide whether we can sprint or roll? The other AA should be the things we could decide on. That’s just my personal opinion though.

There are things to be learned form Reach. Some AA always need to be there like sprint and evade. The bloom system should still be incorporated.

I would like to have an option to play without bloom too. I don’t like the random factor involved with it but it is a change in the Halo series that I believe could be immensely improved on.

I love how some people are always going on about Reach being a “failure” and then giving a poor reason that is usually tied to something they personally don’t like.
