Alright so recently i heard that Halo Reach is now officially not canon and in it’s place, the book, “Halo: The Fall of Reach” has taken it’s place. I want to hear what fans and lovers of halo think of this because i am personally drawn on both because i have read and loved the book, and i have played and beaten and liked the game. What do the more experienced fans think?
Would you care to link that information? Because:
- The whole point of Halsey’s journal (written by Eric Nylund who also made The Fall of Reach novel) was to connect the inconsistencies.
- The mindset is usually the games take superiority over written work.
- Doing a handy, dandy Google search just now rendered absolutely zero information regarding this.
Im pretty sure the last half of the book was non canon and the game is canon

It isn’t true and never has been. The book has existed for 16 years, and the game for 6. And they have always coexisted as canon.
Both are Canon , except for some minor inconsistencies that could be chalked up to faulty records considering every thing planet-side was glassed.
The game tells the story of how for a month Noble team fought a silent war against early recon and invasion prep forces until (damn I can’t remember the name of the super cruiser) de-cloaks and there is obviously no hiding the fact the Covenant have arrived.
The Book if I remember correctly tells the story of blue teams origins and of the final mission that Blue team undertakes to foil the invasion. I don’t know why UNSC/Reach command would choose to keep available Spartans on the sidelines while they are aware of enemy forces on the ground. It is possible Blue team and the other Spartans were on mission or fighting on insurrectionist planets.
It has been a long time since I read Fall of Reach honestly and it is a bit hazy , But I always felt like the book was written after the fact from witness accounts and unclassified information , which explains some of the gaps. The game was a boots on the ground account of the soldiers who lived it. This is how I have always rectified the two any way.

The Supercarrier’s name was Long Night of Solace. And the reason the Spartans were away from Reach at the time was because they were being sent on a mission on the newly refit Pillar of Autumn to capture a Prophet.

Yeah I couldn’t remember all the details from the book. But I figured there was a well thought out reason seeing as it was written by Eric Nylund.
My theory about in the books of the Fall being very quick and sudden and in the game it being over a month, is the Spartan IIs being kept in the dark.

You are correct. And most of the rest of the planet as well.

This. My OCD would not permit me to enjoy either of them knowing they weren’t canon. They can coexist. Watch Halo Canon’s video about it on YouTube, he harmonizes the timeline pretty well. The book and the game are depicting events on two different sides of the planet.
