Reach TU Update Idea

Since I have seen alot of nice ideas flying around from other Waypointers for Reach within the last couple of months, so I am putting out this idea in the rare event that Halo: Reach should recieve another update by 343 Industries (Since they care about both old and new Halo), the idea of another Title Update. Basically, the old now useless Forward Onto Dawn and Halo 4 messages would be removed and a new message would pop up with everything that has been updated, going as:

'Greetings fellow Spartans. You spoke and we here at 343 Industries listened. Halo: Reach has received a Title Update, which has the following changes:

-Firefight Doubles Matchmaking has returned!
-Team Action Sack Matchmaking has returned!
-Squad Slayer Matchmaking has returned!
-The Performance Bonus System has been removed from Grifball Matchmaking for balancing reasons and maximum party size for Grifball Matchmaking has been reduced to maximum of 4.
-A New Playlist has been created called ‘DLC Matchmaking’, where all DLC is required to play that playlist, which has many gametypes on each DLC map available.
-Due to complications with the Halo Waypoint Xbox 360 App, all Military Police helmet variants, all CQB Helmet variants, and the Security[W] Chestplate are now unlocked for all Spartans!
-As an additional gift, three chestplates from the Halo: Reach Beta have been added to the Armory to unlock and purchase!

See you on the battlefield Space Cowboy…’

This at the very least would make a nice TU for Reach, as it incorporates alot of what people talk about in terms of the issues and would resolve alot of them. The Beta Chestplates would be an additional bonus.

Can I suggest another idea?

  • Matchmaking Firefight Versus. 2 Spartans and 2 Elites face off. I think this is an interesting gamemode as Spartans now have 2 enemies technically equal to them. It’s a battle against all odds, you know?

Other than that, despite my belief that Reach won’t be updated anymore, I would love to see this.

I completely agree with all of these statements with the exception of griffball-that playlist should be removed entirely as it’s not even remotely enjoyable. I mean how hard would it really be to change the halo 4/forward unto dawn intro screen? The free DLC should definitely be pushed as it gets old playing on the same maps constantly. I purchased all of them as soon as they were released and have barely gotten any playtime on them. Action sack was an awesome playlist and halo ball xtreme would certainly fill the void that griffball would leave if in fact the playlist were removed as it should be.

Why should Grifball be removed if, as you stated, it would create a void? It’s a fantastic gametype and the only reason it’s not enjoyable in Reach is because of credit boosters.

No point in adding more playlists if there’s no population for them… Though I would like to see Action Sack. I don’t know if that would have a chance to survive.
If you chance Grifball credits, why disallow people from going into the playlist with a party of 8? If they want to arrange 4v4 Grifball matches, just let them? =] Why create a dedicated DLC playlist, when all DLC is free? Just require DLC for ALL online play. Avoids splitting the population, and it will make everybody realise the DLC is free.

You forget the most important change! :stuck_out_tongue: Team Slayer should be removed so that 4v4 Slayer will be Title Updated (‘Super Slayer’), imo. Title Update is definitely better for 4v4 Slayer, most consistent DMR battles, Armor Lock nerfed, no Sword Block. =] I don’t understand why they ended up removing Bleedthrough, I think it would fix the problem of idiots Sprinting around just to double melee. It could be even better if they had kept that, and nerfed/removed Jetpack as well. Oh well, can’t be perfect. =]

That’s also a great idea, implement the TU settings in every playlist and at the same time remove the pre-spawn handicap settings completely. With armor lock and jetpack out of the way the game would be much more enjoyable. Action sack was a lot of fun with a good variety of different game types, I have no clue why it was ever taken out to begin with.

As for the void I mentioned above, I only meant for the misguided individuals that somehow like playing griffball. Halo ball extreme is the same thing just with a golf club instead of the hammer, and also a ball that can be used to splatter opponents.

For Girfball, a Party of 8 is fine, however it would need a specific programmed cap to have parties of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 8. The issues in Grifball matchmaking Occur when parties of 5 or 6 come in, as the one or two strays have a tendency of helping out their friends on the other team in unsporting and griefing ways, such as helping their friends on the other team spawncampkill or teamkill their own teammates so their friends on the opposing team can score. If they can set a custom cap of this, this would work, otherwise, reducing it to 4 would prevent the parties of 5, 6, or 7 from griefing games.

Squad Slayer was fun as it was 5 Vs. 5 Slayer and having that one extra person on each team can create some interesting and fun situations on normal slayer maps in this now discontinued matchmaking gametype . Firefight Doubles is sorely missed by those who just want to play Firefight with a friend or teach a new player how to play. It beats Arcadefight where Nine times out of Ten the other three players spam your screen with so much green from the Fuel Rod cannons whenever you’re ahead in points that it gives you a Migrane, or teamkill you with a vehicle, and quite frankly, nobody should have to choose Anniversary Firefight and set it to the most strict search settings to have a 90% chance of nobody joining them and their friend to get the same result as Firefight Doubles, but limited to only Installation 04. People miss these two discontinued Matchmaking gametypes and it would be nice to have them return.

Team Action Sack (Or Team Action Snack/ Team Snackage Pack as some of my friends call it XD) pretty much speaks for itself with the weird and wonky gametypes that are usually fun and bring alot of laughs. Even if this playlist had no cR payout, just to be able to match with randoms in Matchmaking for this list would be awesome.

Super Slayer Replacing Team Slayer seems interesting as well, I like that idea, pretty much for the reasons you mentioned. How about a Super Squad Slayer, so it gets the TU Update?

While it sounds good, Title Updates for 360 games just aren’t going to happen now. The games themselves aren’t fully supported anymore - backwards compatibility fixes are handled by the Xbox team.

That would definitely bring this game back to large-scale relevance in the xb community

What you stated is part of the reason why I brought this up, and thank you for doing that, but there is more to it. There have been many fantastic ideas being put out there lately for this game, as this is the classic Halo Game that would have the most potential for a TU to have the existing issues (Such as the ‘Peace Games’ in Grifball for example) resolved, have previously removed gametypes that people liked restored, and even have new gametypes created.

I still keep in mind the post that was made by Bonnie Ross months ago on Twitter about 343 Industries caring for both classic and current Halo. At the very least if they were to fix the current issues with this game, that type of action would back that up. A TU update like so would definately show that. Reach should be supported beyond server maintenance and backwards compatibly fixes considering how many people still enjoy it, that there are some issues still that need to be resolved, and due to what Bonnie Ross stated.

I doubt it would really prompt a surge in Halo: Reach popularity.

I can’t speak for anyone other than myself here, but as a day 1 player that has long since drifted off to other games primarily I’d definitely play more reach if only something as simple as the pre-spawn handicap settings were removed. I cannot express in simple words how annoying it is when other far less-skilled players can select something like jetpack and gain an immediate undeserved advantage over everyone else in the game. Anyone with even a modicum of skill wouldn’t need this height advantage in order to procure a win, not to mention the garbage kids that deign to choose armor lock to become briefly invulnerable. I still can’t believe bungie would allow these features in their otherwise perfect ultimate contribution to the franchise they created nearly 2 decades ago now. Other than the COD-esque loadouts and poor choice in certain playlists(which 343 sadly did nothing about namely griffball and invasion), this game is nearly perfect and certainly deserves more players than it currently has.

Which is why I absolutely HATE Uncaged. It’s an infuriating Jet-pack fest. Last time I played here, everyone used it, but because I didn’t, I would die over and over again. Uncaged, to me, is one of the worst maps in Halo’s history. It’s either Jetpack or humiliation. I never though I would do this, but if Uncaged is ever picked in Matchmaking, I will just quit before the game. I can’t stand that map no more.

Even if there were lots of people who have stopped playing Halo: Reach for the same reasons as you (which would be ‘fixed’ in an Update), only few of them will ever find out about the Update…

Oh yeah, Jetpack absolutely ruins Uncaged, such a shame. I love Uncaged actually.

No need to feel bad about the uncaged games…having to resort to selecting jetpack IS the humiliation. I agree that it’s an awful map, I rarely ever vote for it in rumble pit unless the other options are worse(headhunter and juggernaut with a lot of laggy mexicans in the room to be specific). I tend to be the lucky recipient of players that relentlessly hunt me down in rumble pit and on that map with next to no cover the unskilled jetpackers that I just killed simply respawn, hold the left bumper, and look in my general direction and are able to kill me from whichever spawn point they reappear. While frustrating to die in this way I just have to laugh knowing that these kids need one of the handicap settings to be able to get their revenge. Next time you play the map make sure to grab the grenade launcher to pick the unskilled jetpackers off mid-flight…it’s extremely rewarding especially after you kill them a few times prior and they rage quit from a well-placed shot.

Well, I’ll mostly play Invasion now. I find it heck-a-fun and I always perform very well. Love it to death.

They (343i) need to reduce the playlists and make the DLC required or have more DLC specific game modes like 4v4 Slayer, 4v4 Objective and BTB. I wish they’d give Reach another update because it’s not actually that old of a game and is a right pain to play right now with loads of playlists with low populations.
