Reach to 4 Transition and the problems

Greetings all,

I’ve been with Halo since CE and from the beginning I’ve always enjoyed the Campaign. But the multiplayer has always been a hit or miss with me. This latest transition from Reach to 4 seems to have taken the miss.

Many people complain about how reach as unbalanced during the first few months with armor lock making you all but invincible if you know what you were doing. Then it was jet packs and anyone not knowing how to hover perfectly was left in the dust. But these are all balance changes like any game goes through(Just look at Starcraft 2 for example). Halo 4’s setup seems like a lazy way out of making a multiplayer. Everything is pretty much a rip off or clone of CoD. If you don’t think so then you are probably blinded by fanboy-ism.

Loadouts? unlocked weapons and grenades? Locked emblems? The Halo I know had armor and emblems to distinguish yourself amongst the rabble. The maps were preloaded with weapons at a given location and you only choice in game was which AA you wanted to start with.

Now that anyone can take anything in with them to start a match it just seems like there is nothing to do in the maps now. Yes, the map still loads the sniper or rockets but these are plainly visible with the HUD and gives newbie players a chance to find these items. But my biggest concern is that if I’m on blue team why should I see the location of the sniper for the side of the map I don’ start on?

All of the questions I ask I do because The one thing I have discerned is that I play Halo for the “Halo multiplayer” experience. With this current setup I feel like I’m playing a really bad CoD clone.

So here is the point where I ask you the Poll questio

What game do you want to play?

I don’t like bumping but I would appreciate the feedback as well as some votes on this subject.

I like the movement, most weapons and like environment way better than reach, reach was so dumb with ur jumping and sprinting it felt all weird, and the health was dumb and ruined swat.

but with that said every thing else is a mess, ordinance, no X when a team mate dies, kill cams, instant spawn, custom games are missing sooooo much idk what stuff is meant to be the way it is and what stuff is suppose to be the way it is and I just don’t like it…

I’ve enjoyed all the multiplayer modes from the games with Halo 2 holding a special place in my heart. Despite the online grumbles of Reach, I found it refreshing and the lock down ability easy to counter.

The first day of Halo 4 online, I was quite concerned for some of the reasons you mentioned above. The biggest for me was the removal of friendly fire in team deathmatch. However I’ve given it some time and I’m happy to say it’s growing on me. There are certainly some brave changes in terms of the divergence from the original Halo formula, but the core gameplay is still there.

So I’d say give it some time to grow on you.

So far the only concern that has persisted is the network code and matchmaking. With the ability to prefer “good connection” gone I’m frequently dropping into overseas matches with horrible lag. I can see they’ve done quite a bit of refinement of the “hide the perception of lag” and that helps some, however having played competitive multiplayer it is just frustrating.

The kill cam is pointless. My assumption is that it shows you your end of what the opponents perspective may have looked like, not actually what appeared on their screen. Because if that’s not the case then there is a -Yoink!- lot of hackers who are able to shoot at me in the head without even having me on their screen.

I really wish 343 would do some more in terms of overseas players (I’m Australian) because at the moment, it feels like we got the big middle finger for buying into the game.

Otherwise it is great when I get a good match. The strategy I have found that helps prevent being thrown overseas is you need a group of local friends to party with so your chances are higher of grabbing host on this side of the planet…

I truly hate that. It’s just like COD now. There is literally no reason to move from an area you feel comfortable in because if you stay in that area and you get enough points, you get a rewarded with an ordinance. No need to risk running to rockets, or snipe because you ran out of ammo or something. I liked it better when you had to know where to go to get an early advantage. The early rush to rockets was always something I enjoyed since Halo 2. Instead its camp, camp, camp, ordinance, camp, camp, camp. I don’t understand what 343 was thinking.
