Reach should have been longer [Gears/Reach Spoilers as well]

So I just got done playing Gears of War, beat it, and I wont get to much into it but anyone who has knows it’s a damn good game and story.

Yet you ask “Why does Gears have anything to do with Reach”. Well I noticed. In Gears of War 3 I felt more emotional when Dom died then when any of Noble died. Because with Gears I had 2 games to know Dom, fight with him, know his story, and build up a kinda “Relationship”. Sadly in Reach we only had less then a game to do that. Even Jorge wasn’t as fleshed out.

And to make it fair when some other people die in Gears I care less about them. Yet Dom and even seeing Marcus’s dead die infront of him just hit me really hard. And if Dom were to die in Gears 1 I wouldn’t even nudge or care.

Yet in a perfect world I would have made Reach a trilogy or at least two games, to build up charachters and a connection to them. Yet it wont. I hope 4,5,6 can do this, Halo needs more Bro-Tier people.

That is called character developement. It is usually always in good films/books/tv shows/ games. It wasn’t in Reach at all, and thats why many don’t care about the characters deaths, as you said.

A good example of this, besides your GoW and Halo example, would be the 2 horror series Friday the 13th and A Nighmare on Elm Street. Friday the 13th is known for high body count, but you really don’t care when people die. A Nightmare on Elm Street however, has less deaths but when someone is killed, you ususally care more.

I know I got a bit off topic, but this is a prime example of character development.

Pretty much. In Halo 4,5,6 the Arbiter and Half Jaw need to be built up. I think Arbiter could be Chiefs great ally, who if done right could be one heart breaking death.

It’s funny one of my favorite halo Charachters is Mendicant Bias. I hope he has some part in the new games. A hint of him is in Halo 2 and 3.

Reach’s campaign seemed rushed. We just jump from one battle to the next without much explanation. It would have been better if they added longer cutscenes to show them interacting with each other when not in combat.

The bio for Carter and Kat mentioned that they’re both emotional scarred by the old Noble Six’s death. This should have been shown in game. Instead you’re sent on point or into hostile situations like it’s no big deal. They could have shown something like them protecting you or giving you BS roles so you don’t get injured. Then Noble Six would be like “Hey, I get it but I’m a Spartan and I can take care of myself”.

Colonel Holland needed to be seen in person also.

Too bad (from what I know) everyone is dead. Jun could be alive…maybe?

Nice going, should have put up a spoiler alert person. Now you just ruined gears three for me, Im getting tomorrow but no, theres always “that guy” that ruins it.

Same here some people can just don’t think before they post not cool op not cool :frowning:

There’s a spoiler tag in the topic title.

> Reach should have been longer [Gears/Reach Spoilers as well]

Really, cause all I saw was “halo reach should have been longer. Gears 3/halo”
Thats all of the title I saw.

> Really, cause all I saw was “halo reach should have been longer. Gears 3/halo”
> Thats all of the title I saw.

And the “Gears 3” part didn’t set off any warning? Again, I say, you need to read the topic titles and be careful

It disappoints me how bad people are at picking subtle character development, if you paid attention to the campaign in Reach, especially at the interaction between the members of Noble Team then you would not think they need to be “fleshed out”.

Um, they did need to be fleshed out. It was rushed and anyone who has seen/read/played a good story knows it. Reach had no character development. They were set up to die, nothing more.

I believe I’ve won this argument, I hope that you enjoyed the reading :]

o 055 o, great job on educating another lost sheep.

Lost sheep? A strange thing to say.

The fact remains they really were set up to just die. Yes showing there face showed they were human but that doesn’t mean there stories meant anything special. Jorge was the only one who had any relation to anyone [his planet/halsey] So in fairness his death was the most powerful one.

Yet the rest do nothing. They talk every now and then but you never get close to anyone [with the exception of Jorge perhaps] yet Emile, Jun, Kat and Carter are all just…there. They serve only a purpose of helping the mission, the player, and as someone said to DIE.

However the only other member of noble to really care about is yourself, Noble 6, Because he’s supposed to represent the player. He doesn’t say much but you have a nice backstory and you know he’s a mirror of “you”. When he dies it really is saying “this is over now, they are gone”

Yet back to Gears. They had 3 games. Which span a pretty good amount of years. Reach had 1 game. Reach could have been better and more deep if it was 1-More then one game 2-Followed Chief and those spartans

And back to Halo 4. Arbiter needs to return. He was building up to be a good ally of the Chief and already has an intresting yet troubled past.

Exactly. Reach’s characters (except Jorge) were just there to help with the mission and die. There was little time for character development. Reach should have been longer (Halo 2 long), if they wanted to get good character development. But no, Bungie just wanted to churn out their last Halo game and be done with it, so they can move on to their new IP. Of course, there are those that think everything Bungie churns out is good, and they can do no wrong… like George Lucas fans.

SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT SPOLIER ALERT

Am I the only one that knew they we’re ALL going to die by the end of the game before purcashing the game? Like you said Gears had 3 games. There were 4 deaths in Gears that shocked me. 1) Tai 2) Maria 3) Dom 4) Marcus’s dad. In Halo there was 3. 1) Guilty spark 2) Johnson 3) Miranda Keyes.

But to tell you the truth… I thought Dom’s death was the most pointless one out of those 7. He could have just ran with the squad and threw a nade at the barrels…

SPOLIER ALERT END SPOLIER ALERT END SPOLIER ALERT END SPOLIER ALERT END SPOLIER ALERT END

Good point but it’s unavoidable given Reach was only one game.

Imo, I wasn’t that fussed with GOW 3…same old generaly story from Act to Act. Got boring when I noticed the pattern in GOW 2, got annoying when I noticed it was STILL there in GOW 3. But that’s just me.
