Before I get into it, what you see here is NOT A HOAX. There is photographic evidence seen in the link above.
Now, it’s not everyday that I report the news in Halo, but we may have just discovered something very, very interesting. If you remember from the Firefight trailer, we saw the Brute Plasma Rifle on the ground, which for us, pretty much confirmed that it was going to be returning.
However, since the release of the latest update, players have been noticing something on the map ‘March on Stormbreak’ in Warzone Firefight. Players have been noticing something extremely reminiscent of Halo: Reach (mainly because it looks like the model was directly imported/copied from there), which is the weapon known as the Plasma Launcher.
The player has the ability to pick the weapon up, however there is no first person animation, implying that the weapon is in early development, as 343i may have been testing it with Player Models, but are still yet to add a few details. This could possibly mean that 343 plan to bring the weapon back in a future update, or that they might be incorporating it into the next instalment of the ‘Halo’ series which uses the same engine as Halo 5, so that they can test how player models interact with it, giving them a headstart on development.
A bit of extra information regarding the Plasma Launcher in Halo 5 is that it seems to be the exact same model used by BUNGiE in Halo: Reach. Also, it has only been sighted on the map ‘March on Stormbreak’ in Warzone Firefight, and that it is wielded by a grunt (and something else which I am unaware of, as I saw two spawn in the same game) near to the East Armory on around Round 3 when you have to destroy Wraiths and Ghosts.
