Reach isn't that bad

To be honest I’ve always liked Halo 3 more than Reach. When Halo 4 came out for me, it was like “wow, another Halo game that is much better than Reach. Now I can play latest Halo game and have real fun at the same time!”. So I played Halo 4 until I got stuck on level 70th. Then I started playing previous Halo titles again, and I must say, Halo 4 really learned me to like Reach. I still think that Halo 4 is a better game, but because I liked it so much, I started to seek it’s substitute, and so Halo Reach shined again.

There are still things that I hate about Reach:

  • Armor Lock - something everyone hates, except for those, who are using it. Damn sociopaths.
  • Sword Base - one of the worst maps in Halo series. This map could be cut to just top floor, and would be just as interesting (or balanced). Yet it gets so many votes, that I wonder, how so many people could like it? Oh, yeah, probably same people who use Armor Lock…
  • 1v4 or 2v4 matches - pure example that joining in progress is a good thing.
  • Slayer DMRs - DMR is overpowered in Reach. When everyone spawns with one, almost all other weapons are useless and matches are just plain boring.

There are things that I just don’t like:

  • Lack of bleedthrough - making face to face fight far less intuitive.
  • Fall damage - enforces player to play… conservative, and so boring.

But there are also thing that, I think, are cool, and yet exclusive to Reach:

  • Powerful grenades - grenades are just useful. Like they’ve should been in Halo 3/4.
  • DMR with bloom - it’s not just a mini-sniper rifle from Halo 4. Watching crosshair for lethal headshots brings other tactics and different, more interesting, gameplay.
  • Elites - Elite Slayer is just different than standard Halo matches. Yet, it’s just as complex, strategic and fun. Invasion is something unique as well.
  • Forge maps - still cannot wait to see them in Halo 4.

Right now Reach population is about to get as low as Halo 3’s. Maps aren’t as good as in other Halos (however I really like Arena Zealot and Uncaged), but still Reach is very good game. All-in-all next week I’ll get more ranks in Halo 4, but before that, this weekend I’ll be playing Reach (and sometimes Halo 3)!

Reach might be getting close to halo 3 population but halo 4 is not doing well itself. a little over 100k population in peak hours, thats pretty bad considering the game has only been out for 3 1/2 months or so, also included that previous halo’s online’s lasted a lot longer population wise. In my opinion reach is better than halo 4 in most ways. Really the two main things i can think of that halo 4 does better is graphics and sounds

100k population is something no other franchises can dream of (except for CoD ;)). I’m optimistic about Halo 4, especially with incoming TU, more ranks and more (Forge) maps.

I feel glad to inform you that more specs are to be released to everyone this month (who don’t already have them.)

I agree with everything but the DMR. The DMR wasn’t overpowered in reach, the problem was everything else was under powered. DMR had a perfectly good kill time, but the other weapons killed stupidly slow.

Halo 4 DMR kils faster, but the rest of the weapons can still compete with it. (Save for the fact the BR and carbine SHOULD kill faster in their own range, which they don’t.)

Powerful nades aren’t exclusive to reach. They were in CE too, and damn were the things overpowered (they were nukes in both games.)

I found halo 2-3-4 grenades MUCH better. You had to actually hit close to the guy for proper damage. DMR bloom was a horrible mechanic, engaging random(ish) shots and one person winning because bloom happened to be on their side.

I too like elites, and am pissed they aren’t in Halo 4.

Forge is awesome.

but most games dont have a population drop like halo 4. Going from a 450k peak population at release and droping to a 150k just a month and a half later, and now down to 100k. At this rate Halo 4 will be at 30k peak population (what reach is at right now) by fall at the rate its going. Unless they can turn it around with title updates

Nobody played CE multiplayer except for a few nerds on lan parties
I like stronger grenades because that’s what grenades are all about. If you’re not careful grenade will kill you. Grenades are explosives, so they suppose to create destruction, not barely distraction.
As for bloom - I would really love to see it in Halo 4. It creates tension found nowhere else: making you wait under enemy’s fire for just few seconds more, till crosshair tightens around enemy’s head and then you place lethal headshot. Bullet spammers almost always loses this battle of nerves (unless they’re really lucky). It’s like patience versus luck, not just aiming in enemy’s direction and shooting till he’s dead.

Most people left not because Halo 4 is a bad game, but because they have enough of same 5 maps over and over again and because they stuck on 70 lvl. When 343i will fix those (by adding Forge maps and releasing specs) many people will back. For sure I will.
