Reach is so close to being the best Halo ever.

I haven’t had as much fun as I’ve had playing Halo in the TU Beta Playlist than I’ve had playing Halo since Halo 1. I have played Halo for over 9 years now and I have to say Reach has the potential to be the best game in the whole series. I am a fan who has said year after year that Halo 1 is the best and will not be beaten. While the leading your shot is something that my never be translated correctly, everything else Reach can do, and it has so much more to offer. When I first saw videos of Reach with bloom I had my doubts. When I played the beta I lost hope. When I got the game, I eventually sold it. When I eventually bought Reach again, all I could stomach was Team Doubles and Multi Team. Now, after playing with no bloom I can honestly say this game is right on the verge of perfection. I have attempted to compile the necessary/beneficial changes to Reach that I believe will make Reach not only play like Halo, but like THE BEST HALO GAME EVER. Halo 1 still has it’s sweet spots that I guess will never again see the light of day, but Reach has more than enough to make up for it.

So without further ado, the changes that Reach needs:
-Reduce bloom on Automatic weapons, keep their damage the same
-3 melee’s to kill full shields
-Less completely forged grey maps
-Make the Magnum function like a secondary, i.e., you pull it out instead of reloading your primary. Example: you get someone to no shields and they pop behind cover and you have only 2 shots left in your dmr/nr. Pull out the weaker pistol that kills in 1 headshot to no shields, but shoots faster, and is still pretty accurate, just not dead on like the DMR/NR.
-Standard & Hardcore Settings:

Standard:
Armor abilities
Radar

110% Movement Speed
110% Jump Height
150% Gravity

5sk DMR
6sk Magnum
7sk NR

Pro/Harcore:
No Armor Abilities
No Radar
Power ups on map

120% Movement Speed
125% Jump Height
200% Gravity

4sk DMR
5sk Magnum
6sk NR

people oviously dont no the differnce between pro and hadicapted a pro killer runs and starts of running too

Agreed with most of this but a couple notes:

  • If Magnum becomes 6sk, it needs a larger clip… only 2 missed shots and you’re completely screwed. Even pros do this.
  • If DMR becomes 4SK for MLG, it should have a SLIGHTLY greater capped RoF… although it’s fine for close and medium-range, it’s far too powerful at long-range for the current speed to be 4SK, even for MLG.

and the pattern continues…

People hate Reach, but now it’s almost the best halo ever…

thats what happens when game developers take pride in their work, and ignore the short cited consumer’s biased non-sense.

Thanks for the lol.

Every other FPS competitive Halo > Reach.

Reach’s playlists have to be standardized (with no bloom). If 343 doesn’t do this they’re going to split the population.

idk, your suggestions sound ok, but I hate the TU Beta more than anything.

You only need the Magnum and DMR. The other guns don’t mean crap.

keeping bloom on automatics and taking it away on scoped weapons is unfair. reduced bloom is fine.

I think IF bloom on the scoped weapons is removed they should all take at least 7 shots to kill and no less (considering the magnum shoots faster, and obviously I’m not roping the Sniper in when I say scoped weapons being 7 shots)

and though its ok I think the movement changes are not needed.

yeah, the lack of weapons, utilities, and GOOD MAPS will never make reach the best halo ever. It’s like a muted version.

no. your suggestions are ok but it won’t be the best halo ever. 343 is doing what they can with what they have. the default maps are terrible, that killed reach from the beginning. i’m so pumped for some classic maps to be implemented. it will be so much fun to play those with the CE pistol

Apparently I’m a person, I have been playing since CE and have played every halo to 100% completion. I love reach. I think it IS the best halo ever. But I veiw halo diffrently it seems. Campaign>multiplayer. Multiplyaer is great, they have done things that I love. I love the AA, at least in concept, I think they could be tweaked, but the idea of having them I am all for. I mean I never use the jetpack, but it is a cool idea. I understand that some people have their gripes with this game, but really, what everyone is talking about that makes this game horrible, are very minute problems, This game is a blast and Bungie did a great job. You can’t please all the people all the time, and it appears that all those people are on this forum.

but I am all for making a better game, I was super against ZB, but I do agree with this

EVEN if it is to completly go with ZB, which I don’t prefer, the statement is valid, the game needs to be one way or the other.

I agree with this as well, I like every gun having a purpose and at least being a viable option, if not the best option. Utility weapons and 1 or 2 weapon games are lame. The AR is just barely viable in only certain situations now, everyone wants the dmr stronger, but its already pretty good, if you make it better you need to bump everything else up to keep balance, and then where are you? Unless of course you just want the one weapon to rule them all, and in the case I just disagree.

But really, literaly half way through the games life (with h4 slotted for this time next year) why change it at all, why not just put all this effort into a game that is not being played and doesnt already have a years worth of experiance playing with it the way it is.
