In the debate of Reach sucks(which I agree with) the Reach lovers come in and only say ONE thing. It has more people playing than in past games. This statement is FALSE. Think about it, if H3 was NEVER released and came out in 2010, it would most likely have 6X as many people as Reach has now. Why? Because in 2009 the casual crowd grew exponentially due to MW2. Grew Larger with Black Ops. Numbers only make a difference if it is released in the same time. Compare the pre-orders of CoD4 and MW2, two different times, because MW2 had more players, doe it make it better? Hell to the no. Just wanted to clear it up because I have been seeing ALOT of people claiming numbers between a 2007 and 2010 game.
halo reach made 200 million dollers world wide on release date
halo 3 made 300 million world wide and 170 million dollers in the US alone on release date
halo reach is the third most played game on xbox live getting beat by black ops and mw2
halo 3 was the most played on xbox live for about 2 years after its release

No game has ever sold near that many copies. Halo 3 sold about 12 million copies about a year after release, and Reach has only sold 8 million copies. That is still a big difference.

not 300 million copies 300 million dollers is what they made
dont belive me look it up
halo 3 made 300 million dollers world wide and 170 million dollers in the us alone on release day
halo reach made 200 million dollers world wide on release day

The fact Halo 3 made more money, ergo sold more, but Reach beats it’s numbers online when it sold less augments the reason that Reach is better.
Time is irrelevant in that argument, think about it.
The gaming industry (especially Xbox Live) has grown, and so has the number of gamers, so it correlates with how many people are playing games today. If Reach has more it makes sense.

thats why halo 3 was the most played game on xbox live up to 2 years after release beating cod 4 and reach remains number 3 getting beat by black ops and mw2

Well making money is a measure of net profit. Halo Reach still may have grossed more, but may have simply cost more to make than the older, less technical, Halo 3. But that’s a possiblity, not anything to measure either game by.
Furthermore, the number of players online still isn’t a reliable measure of quality either, because the total XBL population has inflated, substantially, over the past 3 years. We’re talking about growth from a slim 8 million to a gargantuan 35 million, so again you can’t take the numbers and either praise or rip Reach because they require corrections and assumptions which don’t lend well to an honest discussion.
For that tangible platform of debate, you have to enter the subjective thickets of human opinion, which being hyper-intelligent land-fish is a pretty good indicator. And mine’s no better or worse than anyone elses, so at least by my perspective Halo Reach is a trite refuse pile of bad ideas that set the genera back well before the mark set by Halo 1. In terms of gameplay it’s on par with Shogo or Dark Forces 2: Jedi-Knight, though with a gritty atmosphere which this slap-dash physics flinger can’t support leaving it with nothing but pretentions of greatness and an utter lack of aptitude for it.
So however well or poorly it may have done in stores, or online, it still suffers by it’s merits.
It’s a little known fact that Halo: Reach has far more players than Halo 3. I believe I’m the only person to have actually done the research to figure it out though… So if this is spreading I’m very happy about that.
They’re both great games and have their own sets of strengths and weaknesses.
All in all, this is a really bad thread to try and have any sort of real discussion so…
