I mean, think of George Lucas. He made an amazing Original Trilogy of movies. But then he made the prequels…and the Clone Wars…and the Special Editions (no! noooooooo!). even though george is a genious he forgets what made the OT superior and so amazing on every level.
Bungie may have fallen into the same trap with Reach, their “prequel”.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Reach a lot, but i mean I enjoyed the star wars prequels too. But think about it, the novels and EU of Star Wars is where its at, cuz its made by fans. 343 is filled with devoted fans who want the best for Halo.
It’s becoming more apparent – and i think your right. Think about it – Reach is the flashier, more ‘advanced’ game. Same said for the SW prequels. But, they have lost their charm imo.

> IDK about that , he makes millions for his Star Wars franchise. His first movies were amazing and are still better then alot of movie today.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the original movies but they’re really nothing special. The story is pretty standard stuff, in truth the only reason they’re held in such high regard is because they were the first big space movie. Lucas is a bit strange, he wanted to put a human sized monkey in the Temple of Doom. Making a lot of money from something doesn’t mean he’s a genius, he got lucky.
The prequels are decent action movies, but horrible Star Wars movies, why? Because you hate the main character. He’s so opposed to what you were told he was: A great man, who fell so far. Then it turns out he’s a whiny little teenager who everybody hates.
Halo Doesn’t have that. To an extent, it has left the formula of it’s predecessor, but that has resulted in varying levels of success as opposed to the seemingly universal hatred for the prequels (at least as Star Wars movies). This transformation is a form of adaptation to compete with the other titles it inspired, and in doing so, many sense that Halo has become just another shooter. Bungie has not ruined Halo, they have not betrayed the core of what makes Halo fun, but they have slowly adapted it to fit modern gameplay conventions. They took it in one direction, and we shall see if 343 continues to follow that path, or forge their own.
Long story short: Halo hasn’t destroyed the memories I had of it as a child quite like Star Wars has, so I think it’s a bit of an overstatement to call Reach the prequel trilogies of the Halo series…
Reach is absolutely not quite that level, I just thought that many people viewed it that way, and it ruined that magical Halo experience. Many people say the prequels werent at all like the first three. Well same for Reach.
The difference is that Reach’s story was quite enjoyable and the dialogue scene werent simply shot-reverse shot XD.
And as for this being posted on two threads, I just wanted to hear from more people on how this idea resonated with them.
