Reach Host? Possible host ban??

Let me start off by saying that I’m new to forums, any forum.

You may just want to skip to the bottom, that’s where my questions are. The following is what led me to ask my questions…

So… this is what happens… My connection is 11.59 mbps down, 1.5 mbps up with a ping of 32ms. I will be playing a custom game by myself, no one else, just waiting for my friend to get online or waiting for him to finish his match made game. His connection is literally half of what mine is and has a higher ping. He joins the custom game I made, screen goes black, then he pulls host from me.

We play doubles a lot, he gets host probably 19/20 games, the other 1/20 being the other team. I never get it, ever.

Playing doubles by myself: I don’t get host, my team mate randomly quits. Screen goes black for host migration. Enemy gets host. I start winning 2v1, member from other team quits, screen goes black again. Host has migrated twice, I still don’t get it. I’m thinking, “do they pick the guy with the worst connection…?”

I looked at my past games, I figue I probably havn’t had host for the last 400 games or so(maybe more). I know this because I mainly play doubles, and the joke for the past 3 months is that my friend always gets host over me, despite my better connection.

I start thinking that I might be host banned. I looked it up, read about, and figure: I can never be host apparently…

Then it happend. I FINALLY got host! The game goes good, score was about 14-12. Then a message from Xbox live pops up on my screen saying something along the lines of: you’ve been disconnected from XBL for 10 minutes. However, I immeditly sign back in, play a dozen or so more games, only to not get host. I can imagine them thinking something like “oops, we gave Main Link host, let’s just kick him offline and be sure it doesn’t happen again”.

Is there really such thing as host ban? When the game picks host, what does it look for(best connection/up/ping)? To me it’s just weird. I got ban once for quitting too many times(who votes for elite slayer…) other than that, I’m perfectly clean. I also feel I should mention I pull host a LOT on CoD, just incase…

I do not have any proof of the following information, it is a guess:

I think that the servers tend to find the user with the worst connection because that will allow the people with bad connection to still play. Think about it, if the person with the best connection is host, then the people with bad connections would never be able to keep up. By having the poorest connection be the host, that player can still play at the rate their internet allows. Sounds unfair to the other players though, so I’m not sure.

I’ve never heard of a host ban, but again, I have no idea.

By the way, how do you know if you’re the host or not?

In Reach, you can tell you’re the host if your reticle or aimer resets when you spawn.

Picking the person with a bad or laggy connection for host: that will make everyone lag, except the host.

Hey Main Link, I think I saw you in one of Nak3d Eli’s videos. It was a Doubles game on Halo 4, and there was 2 people on his opposing team: MAIN LINK and MALN LINK. Heres the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLu35BXtFOk

Thanks for the post. Main Link has been my gamertag forever, my friend copied mine, lol. That was one of my first doubles in H4 -_- I looked so terrible that game.
