Reach hates Offline?

Hi, I just got Halo: Reach for Christmas and I absolutely love it, I played through on normal and I am now working on Heroic but I recently ran into an issue.

My home internet cannot support Xbox Live so when I visit family members I take my 360 for updates, this time I updated Reach and was a bit surprised to discover I made 50 credits for a mission instead of 500-1,000.

Now I make 50-60 credits per mission offline and that has taken a chunk out of the fun and progression.

I know about the ranking system and commendations and that was quite lovely for my first few missions but the main issue is credit/rank progression is next to null while offline.

Hmm idk. Maybe just delete the update.

Or even better if you have a USB flash drive put the update on it, then when you want to play and get that original amount of credits just take the USB out. That way you still have the update on hand

I tried that, the X-X-LB-RB-X-X code doesn’t seem to work on my system anymore and the system maintenance option didn’t do anything to Reach.

I’m not too enthusiastic about a complete HDD reformat due to the amount of game saves, so that’s not an option.

Using the challenge system while I have the option but its going to be a bummer being stuck on pause till I have access to suitable internet again.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with updates. You earn more credits when connected because those are the only credits that could be verified as legit credits. Offline credits could easily be edited, that’s why you can take very few credits earned offline with you everyday.

Just found a quote on GameFAQS

"It’s most likely because you have an Xbox Live account and your friend doesn’t. According to the system in Reach, those with Xbox Live who have downloaded something from Bungie or otherwise accessed Halo Reach online in some way get limited credits offline to discourage online matchmaking players from boosting offline. Strictly offline players are rewarded significantly more points for offline games because they aren’t able to rack them up online (playing online gets you more cR overall).

If your friend gets a huge number of credits and THEN gets a Live account and plays online, his total credits will be cut down to around 26,000 and he will lose whatever armor he had."

This is complete bs -_-

Apparently when I connected my Reach account to Live, it fubared my cR progression something fierce with zero warning.

It appears I might have to make a new profile just so I can play the game normally. I’ve never seen a game that intentionally punishes you if you play offline after connecting to Live. Ranks and such only affect visuals and I’m a Silver so I can’t access multiplayer in the first place, it just seems like bad business.

Effort should equal reward, regardless of internet connection.

BTW I’m a Silver so I can’t access multiplayer.

I apologize if my temper seems to be rising, because it is some what. This is quite frustrating to a Silver player with extremely limited access to Live.
