Reach Epilogue: Is it canon? + Halo 5 theory

The Year is 2579 (Correct if wrong) We hear a Eulogy from Halsey and see a new reformed Reach, we also see a ship which was once speculated to be Chiefs and also Noble 6’s Helmet.

Halsey speaking in 2579 implies she’s still alive and also implies that humanity has survived. Now… Is this canon? If so it could possibly spoil all of the new games, as we know humanity will prevail no matter what.

And that ship is still a mystery.

Oh and also, Chief has probably gone rogue in Halo 5 due to the fact they have replaced him with a new super soldier. In the opening cutscene and near to the end of the game Halsey and Cortana speak about how the UNSC/ONI are replacing Chief, due to the fact Chief is getting old they may wish to discharge him, causing him to go rogue. Another probably reason is if he finds out about what they’ve done to Catherine.

I was confused, you mean the epilogue, not prologue.

Anyway, one theory that’s been floating around is that Dr Halsey could have made that eulogy at any time, any time between reaching Castle base and leaving Reach with John.
Perhaps it was recorded in Castle base, and subsequently found many years later by a recon group (whoever was in the ship with the blue lights).

The ship obviously isn’t Johns, it was there when we first see the helmet on August 30th, long before the events of Halo 3 (don’t know why people even thought is was possible?).

Also one thing you have to remember is that Bungie created Reach and Reach’s ending, probably not knowing what 343 would do with the story.
We may yet see the eulogy retconed.

  1. An eulogy dosnt have to be made in real time, or at all. Its story telling, yeah Halsey might have thought/said those words at some point, but is dosnt have to be during the reach epilouge.

  2. The ship waas confirmed to be a colony ship by Bungie during the Halo Reach Campaign comentary.

  3. There is nothing about Cheif personality that would make him go rogue. We are not talking about a normal soldier here, you dont fight for your country for over 25 years, then turn around to destroy it. Cheif would rather die than do that. You might see a spartan 4 go rogue, but not the Cheif.

  4. The reason that they where replacing him was because they thought he was dead. They would not get rid of him. He is an icon of humanitys victory during the human Vs covenant war. Pretty sure they would rather hihlight his action, have him serve as long as possible and become a role model. Kinda like they did with Cole. And yeah, the 4s are new and great, but cheif have 25 years of combat practice, and he isnt that old, thanks to cryo = he is still good use to the Unsc.

Well Chief is finally beginning to see his humanity, and during those 7 years he was floating perhaps they made a replacement and because he is old they may discharge him

John & Cortana were only adrift on the Dawn for four years, seven months and ten days. Not seven years.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Halsey is eventually going to advance AI technology a ridiculous amount, turn herself into an AI stored in Slipspace and finally have enough time to learn everything like she wants.

Because at the time that’s shown in the video, she’s around 97 years old (the year was 2589.) It’s possible it’s a recording, but if it’s not - that puts her as very, very old. I mean yeah, not impossibly old or anything (and I always found it funny that life expectancy hasn’t seemed to rise much in the Halo fiction) but yeah.

Just a thought. I mean they’ve thrown in enough hints about her working on AI stuff/the composer, and I think the AI slip space thing was her idea.

Mixed up the 7 months thinking it was 7 years, thanks!

Heck, if people from Asia can, for the most part, out-live Americans, Europeans etc etc by firmly taking things like a simple green tea supplement, swimming in pools of fish oil omegas (exaggerated) and other things, I’m sure by this far into the future, science will have the human body figured out to where we can live a long long time. Just my thoughts anyway.

It was really just artistic narration. You don’t see anyone there beyond a ship in the distance.

As for UNSC replacing chief. They kicked Del Rio off Infinity simply for leaving chief behind. If they just wanted to discharge chief, they would have removed him AFTER the didact attacked earth, not before.

The term replace is meant more towards the S-IV’s in general.

*2589

I think it’s pretty obvious that Humanity will survive anyway, there’s no way they would make Humanity lose in the end. They’re currently better off than all the surrounding species (even though they aren’t that well off), they’re only real enemy is other Humans.

And, suspicions aside, as other have said the epilogue isn’t confirmation that Halsey lives to that year.

More proof that Humanity Survived. In 2610 there is a museum created for stuff relating to the War.
So really Humanity will survive. But in what state, what alliances, what enemies. Is uncertain.
Its the journey after all, not just the ending that counts to me.(My opinion, its different for everyone I know)

Honestly unless its a zombie franchise, its usually a pretty safe conclusion that humanity will survive. Even then zombie stories usually end with there being some safe haven. Halo simply isn’t that dark.
