Crazy idea I just had. I was watching some videos of the end of the Halo Reach campaign and Halsey’s lab got me thinking. In Halo 5, Cortana is back and she’s bad. What if, our favorite MC or Locke or someone, even Jun, travels back to the charred remains of Halsey’s lab to retrieve something that could end Cortana? The only problem I see is the explosion seen before the mission “Pillar of Autumn”.
Pretty sure Sword Base and the Forerunner ruin that housed Halsey’s lab were blown up after Noble Team extracted her and Cortana’s fragment. Reach may have survived the glassing (in the context that it will eventually be terraformed to host life again), but Halsey’s lab won’t have survived a calculated torch and burn operation.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that in the book First Strike Reach was split apart by a huge bomb, just after the last of the Spartan IIs escaped with the help of Master Chief and Cortana, as well as a few stragglers.

That was a sangheli moon. A NOVA bomb took it out. It most definitely was not Reach.
Would seem a bit convenient that the way to end the created would be the birthplace of their leader. Pray tell, you got any idea as to what the thing is or what it would do?
I know that the lab may have been destroyed. But, Reach wasn’t completely glassed. I also think that the Covenant wouldn’t glass the site of the Forerunner artifact.
I don’t mean or particularly want something convenient that just wipes out Cortana, especially with her Domain powers. Don’t you think that Dr. Halsey, with all of her understanding and intelligence, would create something that could stop Cortana’s digital processes?
Having Halo 5 be a major setup for Reach to be key in the future story would make some fans feel less alienated by Halo 5’s seeming divergence from the traditional Halo campaign style.
I think if Halsey had some sort of fail safe against Cortana, it would likely only work against her “mortal” form. Now that she’s Forerunner demigod, I don’t think she’d be susceptible to the same types of counters that she would as a UNSC strategic AI. That’s like trying to kill Hercules by making him drink Bleach, it’s just (probably) not strong enough

The Forerunner site was underground; it would have survived the glassing anyway. It will not have survived the UNSC’s purposefully blowing up it and Sword Base (remember that Halsey’s lab was at the Forerunner site, so it’s gone too). The UNSC knew Sword Base and the Forerunner site were lost, so rather than let them fall into Covenant hands, they destroyed them. And when the bombs went off, the site caved in. So even if something survived the explosion (unlikely), it’s buried under like a city’s worth of rubble.
I did really like Hidden Xperia’s YouTube vid not long ago on the possible connections between Reach and H6, it was pretty cool. I would hope for such a thing in H6’s story, although I fear 343 might feel it’s too EU heavy for casuals to grasp.
(For those that aren’t aware,
The theory goes that the coordinates to the Forerunner capital world of Maethrillian may be found in the ruins underneath Reach. Find Maethrillian, get access to the Domain. Get access to the Domain, defeat Cortana.)

Who’s to say that object is not digital or something

I don’t know I’ve been told not everything part was glassed. But HALO REACH sure makes it look like it in the opening scene.

Halsey did, but Cortana removed it as mentioned in the 2nd level of halo 4.
I don’t see how throwing in some random reference to Reach as a mcguffin would somehow make it a ‘traditional’ halo campaign.
As others have said, I don’t think the solution itself should be the artifact on Reach, but it would be cool to go back there and get an explanation for what it actually is, and maybe it should be a stepping stone in stopping Cortana as it might hold more info on Forerunners that Halsey was just unable to glean from it before the Covenant attacked.
