Ive been seeing alot of flak towards the reach assault rifle lately so i just kinda felt like id throw my opinion out there. i personally use the AR more than anything in this game, even the DMR. granted in game types like btb where the maps are giant u really have no choice but to grab a DMR, but when it comes to objective, squad slayer, or invasion, i love the AR. If you know how to use it correctly, its actually very deadly, and i feel my reach stats can reflect that. https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/players/electrid/haloreach
i dont think bungie ever mess up weapon balancing, except maybe in halo CE with the pistol, but lets face it, thts wut made combat evolved fun. Even the halo 3 ar was good if used right.
The AR is Reach had a nice feel to it when used. In Halo CE, it was practically useless in most situations. Halo 3, it sounded weak and not-threatening.
But in Reach, the AR had a wonderful blend of sound and resourcefulness. The reticle bloom allowed it to be more accurate when used small short bursts. It’s a very good gun!
Not to hate, but I wish that they made the Reach AR a little more powerful, like the one in Halo 3 (or at least lower the bloom a bit). Many times, it seemed that the DMR outclassed it, even at close range, which kinda discourages me since the AR is my favorite weapon in the game.
The Reach AR isn’t useless, it’s just not a powerful weapon. But with use of cover, possibly some strafing, and closing the distance between yourself and the enemy, it’s useful.
On multiplayer I tend to charge at the enemy while weaving in and out of cover spots and firing in short bursts, then pulling out all the stops and going full auto when I get close.
On campaign when I have no Plasma Pistol or Needler, I use the AR in short bursts at mid range to bring down the shield, then finally move in for the killing headshot.
Make it slightly more powerful a and it’s perfect.
When I come back from halo 4 and play with reaches AR, it feels very solid and accurate really.
It’s all about knowing how and when it use it. Ever since I’ve played halo 4, I’ve gotten a better understanding of how to use weapons with bloom.
Halo 4’s AR feels really touchy, which is why I like HR AR.
It’s effective, just surprising sometimes when I’m in its most effective range and I still lose.
