Reach AIs Were GENIUS!

I don’t like Kat either, but when I was doing the campaign on legendary, Tip of the Spear was made a whole lot easier…

When I had to kill the three wraiths, I killed one with the plasma launcher. After that, I drove around to flank the other two, I got out, ran for the bubble shield, deployed it, knowing that death was sadly imminent…

Then… KAT! Kat comes crashing through the chaos and rams the wraith repeatedly, distracting it and nearly killing it. I throw two grenades and destroy it. She then distracts the other wraith while I sneak up behind it and plant a grenade in it.

AI perfection. The AIs in Reach were the most realistic thing ever.

(( I wrote that in response to an “I hate Kat” post )).

Now down to the topic at hand: Reach AIs. There one simple thing in Reach that shows how Bungie still is brilliant and ALWAYS innovating.

Remember how in basically EVERY FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER EVER, if YOU don’t do anything, it has this unrealistic occurence in which just because your ONE CHARACTER isn’t doing anything, that a large army or squad of people can’t complete their objective, and therefore, win the war.

Here’s the example: If you sit back and do NOTHING for most for Reach (except for lone-wolf operations or being ordered to do remote detonation), the AIs REALISTICALLY do EVERYTHING!

Bungie, bravo. Keep it going, 343 Industries. Shouldn’t be hard, the leader of the company was a Bungie employee from the beginning of it all.

I remember getting saved by a Marine once. An Elite Ultra tried to stick me with a Plasma Grenade, and a Marine jumped in the way, which cost him his life, but I lived to kill the Ultra and -Yoink!- it.

All I know is they make great distractions, tools for mischeif, and especially bullet shields.

The AI was too good infact on Reach, I prferred it on Halo 3 where the marines would die very quickly and wouldn’t really get involved. Required more skill, especially on Legendary to win.

When watching my Mythic Package run, I was rather surprised to see Noble Team grenade those brutes and jackals to death and Carter even pummeled an Ultra Elite to submission. And yes, letting Kat have the Revenant all to herself is the way to go on TotS.

Jun can be a real moron on Nightfall sometimes, the part where you come up to the bridge and you’re able to glitch through the door with the Forklift. This area is so much easier if you go about stealthily and beat them down but sometimes he decides to fire off his sniper alerting everyone.

haha i know. I think he only does it if he’s in front of you, if you happen to sprint past him then i’ve found he doesn’t tend to do it so much but still, it is a bit stupid.

Why do you make a negative post out of a positive thing!?

F***** hell, just -Yoink- about everything in Reach, huh?

If you’re that much of a slack-jawed, hard-headed, forehead-jutting moron as to just despise each and every little thing because Reach wasn’t as good as CE-3, then, for God’s sake, I can’t even finish without getting permanently banned…

I must disagree. Everytime I play Noble team gets in the way. A sticky flys at them and they armor lock causing it to deflect into me. They try to drive vehicles but just go off cliffs. They are SO SLOW to get into a vehicle - this applies to noble team and marines. Whenever I play levels such as exodus, new alexandria, ONI sword base, the pillar of autumn - the marines always dominate with what I give them, even if it’s just a needle rifle and they’re shooting elites, while they might do only a fraction of the normal damage against them, they’re use with strategy is vastly superior to AI spartans. Question: when was the last time you saw Emile’s shotgun sniping actually work? Last time I played Winter Contingency, I always stay outside at Visegrad Relay to finish off the enemies even on legendary. So all that is left are the banshees and Emile is outside blasting away with his shotty. What is the pellet spread between him and a banshee? Like 1 pellet for every 50 square feet? Brilliant.

Today I was on Tip of the spear and Kat had the Revenant and first thing she did was drive right up to the wraith at the second AA gun and it got destroyed. That or she splattered me as I was getting a better position. I’ve seen Jun put a full clip into a grunt on heroic without killing it - no skulls on - he is absolutely useless. Emile snipes with a shotgun O_o, the only good one is Jorge. Funny thing though, a result of bad programming how if you betray too many marines noble teams’ bullets become instant kill, nevermind your shields and health, if you go rampant it just takes 1 bullet from them, while marines still have normal damage. On tip of the spear on legendary I killed all marines just after getting into the falcon after the second AA gun and after the cutscene when the falcon crashed he killed me over and over for going rampant. I managed to get away and find some cover until he cooled down, but it was worth it. It is possible to evade noble’s atomic bullets if you go rampant, all you have to do is find cover like behind a rock and stay there until he shows up on your radar again. This leads to some humorous dialogue.

Overall they are more of a hindrance than support. The marines from CE were smarter and could last longer. But hey, since reach IS a prequel, maybe marines on the pillar of autumn in CE were actually geniuses in disguise.
