this the new halo. and i agree, tis super disappointing.
they really didnt need to change much from what made it successful in the first place. But so much was changed…
The Santa hat was fitted to the Mark VII helmet specifically. The 3D model was made for that helmet, it barely fits Cavalino and has some pretty ugly clipping on the back. My guess is that they made it as a paid cosmetic for Mark VII then decided to give it away for free this year, then realized that they need to make it work on a free helmet so they hastily slapped it on the default and called it a day.
There was no way they were going to magically form fit the hat to every helmet on Mark VII, lets me realistic.
Who knew? I certainly didnt think it was that complicated.
Honestly I could see a ONI or sniper spartan using them for improved audio. totally practical, great way to express yourself, and CUTE. THX.
I agree that change is good, especially when its utilized in service of keeping a series fresh when needed (two great game examples that immediately come to my mind are Sonic Adventure and God of War 4). However, the problem that people currently have with Halo Infinite is that its take on the universe isn’t getting a chance to shine while fractures are in play, as they’re Alternate Universe designs implicitly made to run contrary to the design the game is building itself upon.
There’s also the issue of how restrictive fractures currently are, since they still have to try and not rock the boat as hard as they could if their was a toggle. Its no mistake MCC’s promotional fractures are more creative and avant garde by comparison, since the team has an easy out by virtue of a single switch that can be flipped at any point (even if its implementation still leaves much to be desired).
Not if it’s deliberate, haha. I was once a dude.
Anyway,
FINALLY. Someone gets it.
Like, I said that’s exactly what they did, a few times on this thread…!
I mean honestly, my lore explanation has always been that they allow the user to process audio frequencies that the human ear is normally incapable of.
No, no that’s not what any of those words mean. You, are thinking of explicit, not implicit. Implicit means implied but not said outright - and contrary means basically, in opposition to.
Look, I don’t know how to tell you this, but EVERY fracture so far has just been a different flavor of “Humanity is fighting Aliens, in a different universe. This is the armor of the supersoldiers that fight them, and here are their stories, told through armor descriptions.”
That’s not implicit and it’s not contrary. It’s literally just, an alternate universe. Fractures are breaks, cracks, branches, through which we get a glimpse into them. They are non-canon, and that’s… completely fine.
It’s not bad. MCC’s neat little fractures are the same way. They aren’t designed to fit with the primary universe, but they definitely follow the same art style, quite frankly. I could absolutely buy that someone made Yoroi of Eaglestrike in-universe. With different resources and different explanations and reasoning sure, but the mateirals are shared and similar. In each of the settings, they’re still shielded, sealed power armor suits.
It’s really not as egregious as you’re making it out to be… and how many players do you run into who wear this stuff?
Why do you even want that uniformity? I really like running into the rare Yoroi and Eaglestrike user, because it’s like, “Hey, neat, they’re wearing it past the fracture, that stands out in a funny way, nifty.”
I don’t feel like it takes away from the experience, personally. But even still it’s not… quite as bad as you’re making it out to be.
Okay look as a diehard Sonic Fan I appreciate, that you see Sonic Adventure in a positive light and all? But I want to inform you that Sonic Adventure being seen positively, broadly, overall? Is like, this-decade recent. Back then it definitely made waves but there were people who hated Sonic Adventure for changing Sonic and what Sonic was for a LONG time. It is not comparable at all.
Does the Halo universe ever cross over with any sort of Pagen Greek Roman Mythology?
Edit: loads - I googled it.
And thats an autocorrect moment!
Explicitly is what I meant. Its explicitly made to run contrary to the design the game is building itself upon.
I’m gonna preface this next bit by apologizing if it takes it out of context, since thats not my intent, but it highlights my second point:
Believe it or not: I agree, seeing the variety is nice. Yet thats also why I support a toggle as I stated earlier:
You’re highlighting the same issue: the lack of a toggle being used to ground the canonical aesthetic for those who want the canon designs as their experience, is restricting the potential for more interesting content like MCC has with:
- Panzerdoll
- Bioroid
- Trooper
- Megaframe
- Blackguard
- Drenger
- Belos
currently Infinites pool is not great, its not bad either, but its seriously lacking creativity, and its making people view it as Halo 5 armor 2.0
(Forgot to add)
Also a diehard Sonic fan who started with the originals on the Genesis. Maybe I just wasn’t in the circles who hated it, but growing up I genuinely never saw people overly critical of Adventure until last decade, around the time Boom released. (I genuinely felt like the only person who had any criticisms of it most of the time before then)
lol, it happens, it’s okay.
I don’t imagine you disagree.
Hm. I kind of get that stance. I don’t necessarily wholly agree though, because I am interested to see how far they push the envelope and still adhere-ish. The issue with the panzerdoll stuff in particular is like, hitbox, lol. It’s real jank.
Oh wow. You must have been real lucky then, haha. Yeah no a lot of people blame Adventure for everything bad.
After the Dreamcast die was when 3d Sonic stated to go down hill. The poor sales of Dreamcast was from a lot of the developers and stores still being upset at Sega for rushing the Saturn out the door before there agreed lonch date. Sega didn’t make much money after that and the Sonic games suffered because of it.
Yeah it’s ridiculous that they made something like the cat ears BS attachment usable on basically every single Mark 7 core helmet, but not something fun and free like the Santa hat.
Us:
“Thank you 343 for the Christmas gift.”
We say with a dejected sigh
343i
“Well we didn’t actually have to get you anything, so…”
Us:
“It’s almost like you didn’t.”
100% agree. Stopped with H3 and just picked up MCC this year. Played MCC and fell in love all over again. Heard about Infinite from friends (who didn’t even play Halo) and was stoked to think could have a new halo game and introduce them to it. NOPE, lol. Tis what it is though. ggs.
Nope x2.
Deliberate change to be the opposite is no less jarring than accidental. The only thing different between deliberate vs accidental changes are the guilt of the party involved.
If 343 was merely ignorant of how to make a good Halo that would be one thing but they had what i would argue is the best gaming trilogy to ever exist as an example in CE-3 and chose to contradict that on purpose in H4. Then they doubled down in H5. After burning the Halo community twice they finally realized their error and made Infinite which is not the best Halo ever made but is leagues upon leagues better than 4 or 5 in every regard.
I unlocked the Santa hat back on Thursday and I was pretty happy about it. I love the festivity of it while playing!
Same. Keeping it on for the forseeable future.
Maybe next Christmas it’ll be on more cores/helmets ![]()
