RE: The Mark VII Helmet

Just a funny little observation I had pretty much day 1, but thought i’d jot it down to see if others had the same thought.

If there’s anything that shows the current state of rewards in the battlepass (I actually don’t care that there is a battlepass, just that the decent ‘rewards’ are lacking) it’s that the Mark VII helmet, the helmet for mark VII armour, which correct me If i’m wrong, the current MP spartans start off wearing, is locked to level 96 of the battlepass!.

I just found it mildly amusing that MP promo images show this awesome looking mark VII mjolnir wearing spartan, of which the helmet, you don’t actually get until you’ve arrued 96,000 XP.

You know what is truly astonighing? At tier 99 of the Battle Pass you get a dark grey coating that looks pretty much exactly the same as another one that’s unlocked by default…

If you break it down even further, at 99 you’re not even unlocking the grey coating: You’re unlocking the little blue bits on said coating - because the other ones were orange.

I don’t even mind that the coating is in the game as an unlockable, but a level 99 unlockable? Madness.

The problem they appear to have had is that they simply didn’t have enough armour attachments / coatings / shoe laces to fill out the entire pass whilst saving some for the store.

Imagine the joy of getting to 99 and unlocking blue bits :joy:

I’m pretty sure the Agathius shoulders (the free ones in the battle pass) are also the “default” Mark VII shoulders since they appear in icons for the Mark VII armor core, in the cutscene, and on the eSports kits.

Don’t you just love having to grind for the basic look advertised in a game?

Yes I believe you’re right, the thing is all they would have had to have done is swap their places. Make the current default helmet a later unlock as well as the current default shoulders.

If the narrative is that all MP players are fresh on the field spartans, surely they’d all have the latest VII as a standard issue. In reality they’re way up the pass because they look cooler than what we’re given by standard.

There’s so much filler in this Battle Pass that you have to unlock the shoulder plates separatly, instead of getting both at the same time :joy:

They need to fix that for the second Battle Pass, otherwise I may not make the same mistake of buying it in order to “support” 343, as if they didn’t have a trillion dollar company supporting them already.

It’s annoying that they promoted the multiplayer with this helmet as the assumed default for the game, only to turn around at put it right at the end of the pass.

Totally agree! I think they either realised it looks much cooler than the default helmet we get currently, or they wanted to try and build a completionist approach and put it right at the end of the pass. Either way its a shame.

At least the default helmet is not nearly as bad as some of the ones we unlock later on. Could you imagine being stuck with Trailblazer until level 30 (or later without the Premium BP)?

Aviator is not that bad, but I opted to keep with Cavallino for a while because it’s one of the better looking helmets for Mark VII anyway.

In a funny case study that I’m sure would go down well for the microtransactions statistics, I bought the battlepass because A.) I have a lot of sentimental love for reach and B.) the mark V looks nicer than the mark VII.

And Mark V has heaps of nice attachments, whereas Mark VII is seriously lacking in that regard.

I was totally expecting it to be the default helmet. And I wish it were, because it’s much prettier and more memorable than the basic Cavalino. I just can’t stand to see Cavalino everywhere.

I’m pretty sure all the ingame images for visors use the MK VII helmet too, and then you click it and it’ll likely slap it onto the cavalino. It’s good we’ll get it eventually as part of the battlepass (and not a shop purchase as that’d be insane) but that poses it’s own issues for those who haven’t paid for the pass

lol yup, it’s weak to have even the most basic default helmet for Mark VII be locked behind a paywall.

What I don’t like is that this time the helmet was not added as the default to the full armor of the game, its unlocking is linked to the pass and above all, imagine its promotional a was big.

There’s a lot of cosmetics in the promos that’s not attainable through normal means.

Actually, the most prominent example of the MKVII helmet is actually in the Season 1 promo image which makes sense
