Guys the game look amazing in 1080p on a oled screen I can’t imagine how it will look on 4k60 with raytracing day one. Who is excited as much as I am? Please share your thoughts?
Can not wait, I’m probably gonna buy an XB SX at launch just in case there is a shortage in stock so I can be ready.
Me too day one
There’s not much excuse at this point for shipping XSX and PC without Raytracing support on account of the delay. If DF’s breakdown of the demo graphics is anything to go off, it should be a big improvement all the way around once implemented.
Yeah, unless they spin something saying other things took precedence…
Tbh, I think it’ll ship with it. It was scheduled after launch anyway.
I think with the delay, they’d definitely be incorporating raytracing on day one. Its confirmed that 343/Microsoft had previously considered shipping Infinite in separate parts, similar to Halo 5, and one of those parts could’ve been raytracing. After the backlash to the footage(along with the other factors they mentioned in the delay announcement) and the subsequent delay, I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to add raytracing now that they have the time to get it right. I’d assume that more than raytracing was going to be sacrificed for the XSX launch day one, though.
However that’s mostly speculation, and I’m no developer to say how easy/hard it is to add raytracing. No matter the case, I’m glad to hear that 343 was able to work something out and get the time they needed to get this Halo right. I just hope they do in the end.
The next time we see gameplay of Halo Infinite, it will have raytracing, and it will look pretty great. Won’t be for quite a while though… Gameplay in March maybe for a fall 2021 release.
Don’t get your hopes up
I posted in another thread about being wary of ray tracing.
It’s a complicated area - and devs will need time to come to grips with what the new consoles can and can’t do. The API’s will take time to mature.
And Halo is aiming for open world at 4K and 60fps. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for ray tracing.
It will be implement, but for general lighting. But that’s not a bad thing… DF have already said how much better the game and it’s textures will look with better lighting.
For those expecting whiz bang reflections and other effects… that will take time… and likely be limited to more closed environment games at lower frame rates and resolutions. I doubt we will see it outside of 30fps games.

4K 60FPS and RAYTRACING?! Yeah okay. Currently, there is nothing that can do that in the PC space at a reasonable price. The most reasonable thing might be 1080p 30fps with ray-tracing or 4K variable resolution at 60fps. I’m exited to see how far the game gets pushed tho. Now with the extra time, it might be interesting to see what the pull off.

True. They may be working on graphical improvements but that doesn’t mean raytracing is gonna be one of them.

I mean if they can’t offer it wit raytracing on that sucks but I think those core are separate and dedicated hardware only for raytracing so we will see

Yes, similar to NVIDIA’s current solution which is use dedicated cores for AI/Raytracing calculations. Which still causes slowdowns in performance. The more I think of it the more I think RayTracing will be used in specific areas of the game and not as a overall solution.

We know they are working on adding ray tracing - there has been mentioned of a ray tracing ‘patch’ next year.
We don’t know if this now becomes a launch priority.
And we don’t know what level of ray-tracing is involved.
As previously discussed ray tracing is demanding on the hardware. It is very unlikely to be used heavily at 4K/60fps. But Digital Foundry did a video and suggested better lighting (eg. with ray tracing) would do wonders for improving the texture quality. And at the recent Hot Chips event the general impression was that developers are way behind on the skills and tools to exploit the new hardware.
Good chance ray-tracing could be a launch feature now that Infinite is delayed, but not completely confirmed yet.
I’d be very surprised if it isn’t there day 1 with the delay. Perhaps it will be in a pre-launch multiplayer beta for those with Series X to try and give feedback? It looks like the new CoD has a 120FPS performance mode so I’m guessing Halo Infinite will have a similar mode where it trades graphical quality for 120FPS.

Honestly, with a roughly year delay, the game should look very different than it currently does. I think anything short of H2A graphics will disappoint many people.
