Rate Halo 5 Beta from 1-10

Now that we’ve all had a couple days to test out the beta, I’d like to see everyone’s rating on what they think of it from a scale of 1 to 10. Obviously 1 being the absolute worst, and 10 being the absolute best.

Also please don’t be either overly positive or negative, unless you’ve got a really good reason there shouldn’t be many 1s or 10s just because it’s “pure garbage” or “It feels like halo”. I want this to be as accurate as possible so we can see what everyone genuinely thinks.

I’ll start it off with a solid 5/10. Personally I am quite disappointed with this arena gameplay and at this point I’m just hoping 343i can make up for it by having awesome BTB gameplay.

I r8 8/8. Wud b8 l8, m8.
Seriously though, 9/10. Ranking is a good system but glitchy, gameplay is awesome but lags a little occasionally, control schemes need a tweak to make it so that you can ground pound without using the claw, and so forth.

It’s a little early to say because it won’t show enough… But i think 8/10 for the moment.

deffo a 8/10 for me. I feel that there are still a few thing’s that could be fixed but there listening and changing thing’s. So that 8/10 is for now because there are still a few bugs and some things that erk me as a player,But will likely change in full release.

5/10

Doesn’t feel like Halo to me

-Time to kill is too fast.
-Controller settings could use work
-Announcer’s voice is annoying
-Seems to be a lot of bullet magnetism
-Crouch jumping is basically impossible
-I don’t like the “CoD style” ADS (Smart Scope)
-Tells you when and where power weapons spawn. (I’ve had quite a few games where there are 2-3 people standing on Sniper spawn holding whatever their “pick up weapon” button is.)

8/10 I like it, have some concerns but for the most part it’s good. To be fair we’ve only seen 2 maps and slayer so this can easily change, for better or worse.

6/10 right now. I really want to like this game, but I just can’t in it’s current state. I see the potential in the game, but it needs a lot of work. I’m working on doing some research and more playtesting so I can continue to write up a big in depth three part feedback thread. Hopefully this game can still be saved.

Its a solid 4/10 right now, but with some changes it could hit a 7/10.

4/10

Game turns into Rainbow Six back in the day at higher levels. The current two maps and weapon combinations bring the game to a hault. Once a team gets a few points up on the other, they lock down the map with the current weapon layouts.

Don’t tell me Halo has always been about the power weapons, because I well aware of this…

Currently, when you have two evenly based teams, the first team to lock down Car Street in Truth wins, they push and hold one color and now have 8 of the 10 BRs and DMRson the map.

The beta needed to have two variants to be tested. A Slayer and a BR starting Slayer to really test the games/maps.

One big reason I rate it as a 4 is the ground pound. I have been playing Halo for over a decade and it has become habit when making some jumps that are “iffy” to duck jump. Oh wait. all that does is screw everything up. That feature is not needed in Halo and now there is nothing that rewards players that can jump and maneuver better than another.

Simply too much “get away” aspect in this game as well. Another thing you learn from years of playing FPS games is you should not chase. You’ll lose more often than not. You pick on a guy and he not only has sprint to get away but now a boost to dive back under cover.

These games just crawl… along when you don’t have good kids dumping on another, when you have 8 evenly matches players. Too many times of a 50 kill slayer is being decided by the 12 minute clock.

For me 7, as it’s a step in the right direction.

The beta experience is unreliable at the moment due to lag. (Australia)

There’s so much left to see so I’ll just make individual categories.

Maps:

Truth: 7/10 I like it, but I think the Prophets Bane is over powered. Just put a normal plasma sword in, and I’d find this map more enjoyable. Yes the PBs strength does encourage map control, but they didn’t have to go that far to prove the point. Also, this map NEEDS a shotgun at bottom mid. I suppose it just didn’t make the beta. I’m glad Pink 3 is back, and the trick jumps are cool, But it’s sad to see people sucking so much at map control here… If people would just use mic’s I’d help them out… But alas…

Empire: 10/10 I love this map. It really highlights the new abilities, with skill jumps galore and it provides excellent opportunities to show of your skills at close, mid, and long range. The Sniper rifle is great as a power weapon. There are a few great sniper perches, but you’ll need to be an excellent shot, and have teammates that can watch your flank

Weapons:

AR: 9/10 I think it’s balanced perfectly, but I understand the complaints. Folks are used to this weapon being useless… Now it’s a great close range weapon, and a mediocre midrange one, thanks to smart scope. I have no issue with this, because it makes starting weapons useful, but doesn’t award you with the best gun right out of the gate.

Pistol: 10/10 finally a well balanced pistol is a halo game! This is my favorite gun in the beta. Keeping in theme with useful starting weapons the pistol is AWESOME. Detractors won’t admit it, but a skilled pistol user will own the AR at ANY range. This gun should kill any question as wether or not the AR is overpowered. Get good with this and you’ll never touch the AR again. As more players get good with this (and the other precision weapons) the perceived threat the AR possesses will decrease

SMG: 5/10 OP. It should be a beast up close, but Increase spread when scoped. DRAMATICALLY.

BR: 10/10 this classic hasn’t changed much. Still owns at mid range.

DMR: 10/10 best iteration yet. Great at mid-long range

Sniper: 7/10 how’d they mess this up? Scope is too slow. Fire rate is too slow. QuickScoping in Halo? Get that ish out of here. Still fun to get quality headshots and snapshots though.

Sprint: 8/10 I think they’ve gone through great lengths to balance it, and I think they are close. There is a warmup time (about 1s) that prevents it from being a get out of jail free button. Maybe bump that up a bit for the whiners. Also, shooting a guy in the front should knock them out of sprint, and nullify the Spartan charge.

Ground Pound: 1/10 useless. Shouldn’t be tied to crouch button.

Thrusters: 9/10 feel good.

Clamber: 8/10 feels fine, but should require timing… Preferably, the same timing crouch jump required. I do like tying sprint, thruster, and clamber into sick skill jumps
Overall: 8/10 I haven’t had this much fun with halo since I was hooking up 4 OG Xboxes at LAN parties. They’ve got some fixes to make, but it feels like a winner.

Now if I could get people to unlearn all the LoneWolf crap they learned over the 6years of FPSs I’d be ecstatic.

8/10

It’s awesome but still needs some tweaks, TTK needs to be a little bit longer and Grenades are a bit OP.
Other than that it’s awesome!

6/10

  • Dont like sprint AND thruster - I feel like it should have one or the other. Probably in the minority here but I like sprint and not thrust.- I think sprint should be modified - You shouldn’t be able to sprint if you have less than 25% shields - think of it like if you are wounded how fast could you run? - I noticed while sprint prevents your shields from charging, if you wait until they just start charging then sprint, they will continue to charge while you sprint- this should probably be changed to suspend re-charging.- AR/SMG seem like if player is aimed anywhere in the same zip code it registers hits. on the kill cam i see the players reticle is no where near me but they get the kill - Scopes on weapons seem HUGE. Also somehow it doesn’t feel quite right when going from zoomed out to zoomed in on BR - not sure what it is.- Sword is huge and blocks right half of screen & so bright- I think Pistol rate of fire is too fast/Accurate - makes it a mini BR rather than a weapon of CQB/last resort. for any hope of “realism” (yes I know this is a sci-fi game) a pistol should never be a first choice over a BR/AR style gun at anything more than 10 feet. for anyone that has ever shot real weapons you know what i’m talking about.- smg shouldn’t have scope ability

Also

  • would like it if when looking at a players service record, you could RB/LB to go to next players service record without backing out to roster, selecting next player, then selecting service record- would like to be able to see prior match stats after backing of game end lobby- that music/sound on death has to go - its very annoying.- I think kill cam should only be activated if you press a button while dead or something rather than the default view.- intro Lobby music is odd - sounds like the opening soundtrack from a Jason Bourne movie rather than a Halo theme song.- In game Announcer is annoying - needs to be cut back or cut off. and enough with the “CONTROL POWER WEAPONS TO DOMINATE THE ENEMY TEAM”- To many announcements of power weapon spawns - one time at 30 seconds would suffice.- post game bro dance detracts more than it adds. How about change it to a third person view of or slo-mo of the final kill? That would make it at least interesting and have it change every time.Bugs i’ve seen - Lots of bugs in lobby/matchmaking obviously: getting stuck, sometimes jumping right into a match, server errors etc.- i was shooting a player once and he just froze in mid air - couldn’t kill him and he just stayed there for a while (ie until i died about 45 seconds later). Don’t know if its because that player quit or got disconnected or what- Lag is an issue: i’ll be targeted on someone, get killed, then in replay it shows me shooting well behind player or something. (and same in reverse, while alive it appears my enemy is shooting well behind me, but on kill cam it shows him dead on target)

9/10
pheonominal experience from me all around. Of course there are minor networking bugs, but the gameplay is on point.

It’s only the beta so the ratings might be pretty low from some users. As of now, since it it’s the beta I rate it 8/10.

9 for good competitive Arena battles and Map Design - Empire is a Great map.
7 for Weapon balancing- AR is too powerful and can beat weapons like the BR easily in close combat.
9 for the Ability’s - Thrusters are a great idea and have a place in Halo and Ground pound is really hard to pull off but satisfying when you do.

8 for the Smart Scope - I can see it staying in Halo but it is still over powered, needs nerfing. Halo has always had Scoping anyway.

I’m still trying to find a good way to used Shoulder Charge and Slide but I think Shoulder Charge might need to go because you can only charge forward and is hard to manuver around when you use it.

Overroll 8/10

7/10 for the bits we have so far. I`m not going to try and judge the full game of two maps.

For a beta I’ll give it a solid 7.5/10. The only problems I see are the groundpound/rush thing (completely useless) and the spawns can be atrocious if you are playing against people who know them. Also the “Prophet’s Bane” should just be renamed “Yellow Energy Sword” lmao
