I would give the game a 4/10 and only that high because I decided to view it as not being a halo game.
The story is a terrible, underdeveloped and convoluted mess that ruins Halo 4’s amazing story and direction for the franchise in addition assassinating a beloved Halo character. However, the gameplay is great; the gunplay in particular is super smooth and fun. Overall a significant improvement over Halo 4. The campaign itself can get a bit repetitive at times and the level design is a mixed bag, but there’s some fun and unique moments. The lack of splitscreen, Spartan Ops and Firefight is disappointing though.
However, it’s Halo 5’s multiplayer that redeems the game. With the inclusion of fair starts, and innovative and balanced new mechanics, I’d say Halo 5 offers the best Halo multiplayer experience since Halo 3’s. It’s much better than Halo 4 and Halo: Reach’s efforts at multiplayer.
So I’d probably give it a 7/10 or 8/10.
