Ranks

It seemed to me that there were no threads about the possibility of new ranks. So I thought about it and reflected back at the way ranks used to be in Halo Wars. Originally, to get a General rank, you needed to get 2,400,000 points. That was later lowered to 960,000 points. I’d be all for changing it back to the way it was post November 2009 for HW 2. Thoughts?

This is more of a touchy topic that you think. I’m all for some high cap ranks, but developers these days often like to make an achievement for reaching the highest rank. Believe it or not, achievement hunters are a relatively big group, and even when the general rank only required 960,000 they still complained and said “nobody has that kind of time.” That statement is true if you don’t actually like the game you’re playing, you’d rather achievement hunt and move on. Meanwhile there are players like Alex69NoOne who presumably have 20,000,000 points or more on just one of his many accounts. The easiest way to fix this is just not make an achievement for getting to general, but I have a feeling they’re still going to do it anyway. It felt pretty crappy to get to general and have nothing more to work for, but the real funny part was how little the rank meant in terms of skill. Most generals were at least a 33 trueskill, but that means absolutely nothing in the community we belonged in. Anyone below a 37 in the big standard playlists would make for 10 minute games or less. This basically meant that we ignored the ranks because they meant nothing to us. General was actually the least scary rank, because you knew it wasn’t a good player on a second account so as long as you don’t recognize the gamertag it was going to be an easy game.
I was going to present a different idea of a visible skill number but I think I’ll make another thread instead.

So you’d rather have something between 960,000 and 2,400,000? I want rank to mean something, but I do see your point about achievement hunters that would most likely complaint about a high cap ranks. Idc, I just want it to be higher than it is now.

I would propose a ranked ladder much like League of Legends or Starcraft 2. This ranking system would better determine the overall skill level of an individual player instead of just grinding matches to obtain a rank.

Starcraft 2 does have a good system. It would do HW 2 well to adopt it.

Please give ranks like the old one. Don’t give me numbers like in halo 4 or 5

I would love to see a new ranking system
