Ranks

So does anyone know and can they please explain to me how the ranking system for Halo 5 will be like? Will it be like H2 H3 where its a 1-50 ranking system or reach and 4 where the more you play you rank up or what ? I’m very confused

It will be/should be the same as the beta. You complete a set of placement matches and are placed into one of the seven divisions (Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Onyx, Semi-Pro, and Pro). The first 5 divisions have three sub-levels, but the Semi-Pro and Pro divisions are for the top players with most competing for the top 200 spots in the Pro division.
There is no 1-50 ranking as there was in past Halos, unless they changed the ranking system. In addition to the competitive ranking (CSR) you have the Spartan Ranking (SR) that you see from Halo 4, this is just XP based and has no impact on your competitive ranking.

Everything talked about is from the beta, here is a link if you want to read more http://teambeyond.net/halo-5-ranks-breakdown/
I don’t think they have talked too much lately about any changes to the ranking system.

Both. You have your SR like you did in Reach and 4 which will unlock items, and then Trueskill/ CSR in Arena.

Think of it like this…

Iron = 1 - 5
Bronze = 6 - 14
Silver = 15 - 23
Gold = 24 -34
Onyx = 35 - 44
Semi-Pro = 45 - 50
Pro = 50+ (only 200 people will be here)

Now obviously that’s not exact, but that’s pretty much how it works. You can still rank up if you win, and down if you lose. But rather than a number from 1 - 50, you have a division rank. Personally I’d like for there to be at least one or two more divisions in there. Because the difference between an onyx and semi-pro can be pretty big. And in the beta, semi-pro’s could get matched up with onyx players.

Then you have the SR rank which like people said, is all about experience earned (kills, assists, medals, wins, etc…) and based on how much you play. I’d like for there to be a lot of SR ranks, to accommodate those who play a lot. Not as much as Halo Reach, but way more than Halo 4.

Idk if I’ll ever get past silver II cause in the beta I got put in Silver II and never got out of it cause I’d win a match go into III then lose a game then go back to II it was like a pattern and it was annoying

That’s the entire point. You get put into a division full of people around your skill level

Excellent analogy i see it now thank! :slight_smile:

This system is going to be the best ranking system we’ve seen.

The thing is, a good matchmaking system, as they’ve said in a recent interview that was just published today on Polygon, will mean that you’re winning 50% of the time.

So if you find yourself stuck in silverII or gold III or whatever, that may just be your skill level, and you’ll have to skill-up a bit to keep climbing the ranks. You can’t just expect to keep climbing, you’re going to run into people who are better than you, the system is designed that way, to challenge you.

I think a lot of gamers these days feel entitled and are used to being spoonfed achievements and “accomplishments” by games that are just trying to get someone addicted to the next reward and call it “gameplay”. Most mobile games exemplify this very starkly. Suddenly, these players play a game that challenges their skill and determination and then they call the game or system trash when they suddenly aren’t being constantly rewarded for minimal effort or simple time gating (can’t do that yet, come back in an hour!)

The Arena in Halo 5 (and they’d have a hidden CSR for Warzone too) shouldn’t be like that, thankfully. It pits you against people of even skill and says “sink or swim”, and ultimately, because of this, it’s a far more enjoyable experience. Some people may find it frustrating to find out that they’re not the best halo player in the universe but I for one relish those close 49/50 games as the best times I have playing halo, even if it’s a loss.

Additionally, we’ve seen success with this kind of Ranking system in many competitive games, namely League of Legends and Starcraft II, it does however, require a large player pool to function well.

Looking forward to this. Didn’t get to play the beta except for maybe one game but this sounds like something I can jump on board with.

I wonder if the ranks will occasionally reset, like they did in Reach (and maybe 4… never even played ranked in H4 lol). Probably not if I were to guess. Anyone know?

Just rename the pro division to DDoS because that’s who will be up there.

Both. You will have a Spartan Rank (though I wish they made it like Reach; that was cool), and you will have tiered skill ranks that determine matchmaking (I would prefer 1-50, but it’s Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.).
