Seriously, what is the point of having ranks reset every month? Yes I’m aware of the ‘behind the scenes’ rank but I still think it’s total -Yoink- and doesn’t actually work. I just finished my placements (soloQ) winning 6/10 and received Plat 6. The games I lost were against a 4 man team who were Onyx 1700, 1800’s and I played against them several times. Now I’m pretty average sitting around mid to low Onyx 1500 so how is that supposed to work?
I’m far from good and consider myself sitting pretty much smack bang in the middle of the field but why should I have to climb back up the ranks to where I felt suited and had the most competitive games?
Also what happens if a highly ranked players or groups decides to intentionally lose their placement games so they can stomp lower ranks? There’s enough problems as it is people creating new accounts and stomping everyone ruining their experience. I can’t help to feel this just -Yoink!- those types of people and we have to go through this every month!
I know where you are coming from but i quite like the rank resets. Also onyx is definately NOT average, mid gold through mid platinum is about average i think.
I like the rank resets. I enjoy working my way back up until I hit a rank where I feel I belong. I enjoy seeing how I perform season to season too. Hearthstone resets the ranks every month and that works fine for that.
If people were placed in a lower tier last season, then they have a chance to be placed higher if their skills improved. I personally do not like it. Halo’s traditional ranking system lets you know where you belong when you start from the bottom and climb, and if you hover around an area then that’s your placement and you should try to improve. However here its 10 placement matches and that’s it. And both still require a good team to be in.
A rank reset doesn’t change the skill set of a player, the good players will get back to their good ranks and the bad players will get back to their bad ranks.
Maybe it would be nice if the seasons were longer, maybe 6 weeks? 2 months? I don’t know, but I kind of like the seasons.

Luck has everything to do with it. I don’t play a ton with people in my fireteam, I’m usually able to get online when my friends aren’t and visa versa (new baby dictates my schedule). I was a plat 4-5 in FFA with a .9 KD ratio but I won around 25% of my qualifying games because one on one I was better. Now in team slayer, I’m even better, with a 1.3 KD ratio but I couldn’t get out of silver 5 because I kept getting people who would consistently go 5-15 or so. They were people who belonged in silver. I’m average at best, but I can hold my own in the plat rankings. The thing about luck is that the randoms I kept getting on my team made my slayer win percentage 43%. I was consistently having games where I was 20-9 or 18-10 (those arent accurate numbers, just a few I think I remember, go look for yourself) but I just couldn’t carry the team to victory. Lost a lot of close matches just due to the luck of the draw (draw of team mates that is).

I hear you both on this and agree. I don’t take too much stake in SR rankings as a measure of player ability unless it’s FFA—however, it gets screwed up in FFA when you are ranked and the other 4-5 players aren’t. In that case you are in a lose-lose situation since if you rank #1 in a game, because the others are unranked you go nowhere, however, if you place 2nd or lower, you drop BIG TIME in SR. A very unfair situation and one that I experienced through out the Feb. season making it impossible to increase rank due to the number of “unranked” I got paired with even on Feb. 28th!

To maintain a consistent Rank and make sure you’re up to par as the game continues to grow.

If the ranking system worked properly, it would place you exactly where you belong like it’s supposed to. That’s the whole point.
To be completely honest, I’m becoming less of a fan with each new season. It’s been inconsistent to say the least. I know people bash H3 1-50 but honestly after the first month of playing we all would have been separated into proper skill levels. I wouldn’t get paired up with a Gold when I’m a Diamond unless he was with a party. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just being a fanboy but the balance in Halo 3 was far more than what I’ve seen in Halo 5.
