I don’t really mind it much myself, but the reason people left Reach wasn’t just because of the gameplay, it was mainly because of the ranking system being meaningless. Now, rank is almost nonexistent, so I unfortunately see players leaving the game very quickly after launch. 343, you’re going to have to find another alternative to prevent cheating, perhaps maybe not making the rank system as exploitable as Reach’s and making it more like Halo 2/3’s.
For some odd reason, 343i thinks “balance” is lowering the skill gap so everyone an kill everyone equally! I think they’re ultimate goal is that everyone have a 1.0 k/d.
But this goes to the ranking system as well. If Lil’ Jimmy could potentially feel bad that he can’t reach General, then we need to remove it from the game! It’s called Little League syndrome. Everyone deserves a trophy no matter how poorly you play or little effort you put in.

You still have a rank. It’s just not visible to everyone else so people don’t gloat and make bad kids want to leave the game. The good kids will still have high K/Ds and the bad kids will have low K/Ds. It doesn’t matter how many “nooby” things 343 adds to the game. The good kids are always going to be good and the bad kids are always going to be bad.
> Yeah 343, Not allowing kids to harass other kids is a horrible idea.
Really?
Firstly: Kids under the age of 17 should not be playing the game. If they are, then they should play with the maturity of a 17 year old.
Secondly: If, as an adult, a player can’t cope with another person throwing stats and numbers at you, and you are unable to mute people, then you are not capable of playing the game.
> Yeah 343, Not allowing kids to harass other kids is a horrible idea.
There’s something called a mute button.
I myself don’t play games for their rank and play to have fun, but most of the community, I guarantee you, will be furious with the invisible rank and quit after week 1.
I’m just trying to prevent Halo 4’s population from going down the toilet.

Dude… YOU can still see your rank. I don’t see what more you want. Why does it matter if others can see your rank or not?
Let me explain why mute doesn’t matter. I personally don’t really get harassed. I’m not great but I’m not horrible. Usually top 3 in the game. I “played”(remember that keyword) with some really bad friends. Their overall k/d was usually around .85 and H3 rank was like 35. They got harassed all the time and eventually quit playing because it’s almost embarrassing. When someone get’s harassed and they are with a group of friends they usually don’t just mute. They feel embarrassed and feel the need to embarrass the person embarrassing them. After so much harassment they just quit the game completely. I can’t stand rank trolling idiots.

No visible rank is better. As long as I get paired with skilled players like me I am happy.
I really don’t see why people leave because of a lack of skill rating systems. No games use visible skill rating any more, and there is good reason for this.
Personally, I like the way the new experience system looks. There is a huge win bonus, points for completion (not like Reach’s), and points for completion of objectives. It’s exactly what an experience progression system is supposed to be.

In an ideal matchmaking system, everyone would have around a 1.0 k/d spread.

So the ideal system would have absolutely zero skillgap? No.

I sure hope you aren’t trying to imply that I’m a little kid. When I use the word kid I’m talking about people 17-20(I realize that those would be considered teen-adult). I have friends around that age and they really feel crappy when every other high rank is calling them out in front of their xbox buds. In Halo 3 particularly it was really bad. Every other game it’s like “Look at (insert gt)! They are just awfuuuul!”. If I had a penny for every single time I heard BK in Halo 3 I’d be one of the top 5 richest people in the world.

You still have a rank but only you will see it. Bragging rights are not REQUIRED to be in a ranking system nor should it be. I see no difference in it being hidden than visable except if it is visable then others will cheat and explot to get it just for bragging rights. Bragging right is all that little number beside you name gave you in is not required, at least this time around you will have a rank to work for, what does it matter if I or anyone else can see it. And to be honest I don’t care to see it.
Rank has never once meant anything. Its pointless. One of the reasons people left reach was because of not being matched up with people in their skill level. Rank meant nothing and will never mean anything. Its purely bragging rights.

Touché . . .
I should rephrase that by saying the entire population playing against each other would have a 1.0 from the best to the worst.
