And I only ranked gold, how the hell do rankings work? What more can I do?
Well you have been silver an gold in slayer in all other seasons that’s why. Your previous rankings factor into where you place. So in your ranked matches you only played golds. You have lots of seasons to show you are not a mid plat yet for slayer

Thanks for explaining. I ranked in slayer, first time that I can remember, did well, and was given bronze. I will play a little more going forward.

Yea you haven’t ranked much which is why an the playlist you did rank in you were silver with a few gold as well.
I wonder the same thing OP. I see players with negative KD/KDA and far worse W/L records get placed two ranks higher while I can never get out of gold no matter how well I play. Not that I’m a great player tbh

Like I have mentioned you answer your own question. You said you never make it out of gold. Why would you get placed in platinum after ranks? I isually rank high gold low plat an generally make mid to high plat by end of the season. (With team arena exception last seasons).

You also mentioned players only place the ranks of their previous season. My previous season I only places gold 1 and never played a game after because of the lagfest update known as ghost of meridian. Yet, if you look at my placement matches this season I got put up against Plat

I actually said previous seasons get factored into your placement. But if you can’t get out of gold after you rank you can’t expect getting ranked platinum after placements
As someone else has said, it’s based on your previous seasons. I only got a ranking for Team Arena in the first season and I ranked Gold (I think). Went back to it last month and I was being matched against Silvers for my placement matches and it’s safe to say I stomped them (not to toot my own horn but I was having a blast). I got put into Gold 4 and worked my way into Platinum from there and now my placements have been against Platinum/Diamond players.

Still begs to question why if system has no expectations of placing me platinum, why am I being pitted against them on such a reg basis?

Ok well because you are a mid gold player. The system does that so that higher ranks don’t wait as long.
Gold and lower divisions make up a smaller portion of plat and diamond. There are more players so yes they will get placed against golds sometimes. Nature of the beast. But clearly it’s working. You are still a gold. So you aren’t winning enough to move up the next rank. If you got mid plat every season an still placed gold initially you would have an actual argument. But you really don’t have much to go on.
Don’t stress it the game does same to me always go positive can’t get to onyx solo. Yet these guys with BTB champions ? Or soft capped 1500 champions makes it unfair I hope they update it. Yet when I lose I’m a diamond playing a stacked team with plats and one champion lol

You make some good points but many already know the system is broken from the dozens of champions and onyx that admit they wouldn’t have their rank if they weren’t carried in placement. Heck, some in my company went negative every game while being carried to wins and still managed to place onyx, improving their previous season. Same as the ones that throw their placement matches to get lower ranked and ROFL stomp lower levels. The system is about as reliable as the in game physics

I understand that. But for the sake of having an actual decent discussion on here, which is rare, while the ranking system might
be broken to some ppl does it still not work for the ones who play the ranking true to color. For example I’m sure you play games after you get ranked? In which you win some lose some and at the end of the season you are still gold. So the system ranked you properly. Probably because you aren’t the guy that cares what an online rank says about you. You come to halo for fun and it won’t hurt your feelings if your never champion. I’m the same way.
Min the other side you get the guys who only care about rank and think just cause it says onyx next to them it actuslly
means something. Sonthey basically exploit the ranking system to get there. In which others will say oh it’s broken because he got carried and actually doesn’t deserve it.
