Ever since the reset seems the matches have been out there. I am usually high diamond low onyx. It put me platinum with plat teammates against onyx and champion several times. Smurf accounts from champs all day. Always someone 4 / 16 every game on either or both teams. Change it back or work on the issue please.
The smurfing is pretty ridiculous at this point, very frustrating to play against. I know you can’t really punish players for creating them, but making players progress through the ranks much faster on new accounts should help alleviate the trouble.

I think if players needed to reach level 25 (or some other arbitrary minimum level) before being able to enter RANKED match-making, it would alleviate some of the “smurfing”. I think as long as there are ranks to climb, people will try to take advantage of the system.
I think part of the problem is the population. And let’s face it… Halo has never been a game that is kind to new comers.

Totally fair. That solution sounds like it could work, though I’m unsure if all smurf accounts are created to circumvent ranked playlist matchmaking. I see plenty of those jokers in Team Skirmish and BTB as well.

I guess I don’t hop into the social playlists enough to be better informed on what goes on there. Although, it seems like that could just naturally be a place with more uneven match-making, assuming the match-making system does not attempt to balance the teams in the same way ranked match-making does (again, I have no idea how it works, and a lot of the time the teams aren’t balanced anyways).
I guess I just wouldn’t be too upset if I hopped into a social list and got scraped by smurfers… While it doesn’t sound like any fun whatsoever, I don’t see it messing with the integrity of the ranking system, like ranked smurfing does.

Two things I’ll address:
-
how is the 25 SR going to alleviate smurfing? It’s an xp system only and people can easily get to 25 and wait it out till they hit they to start smurfing.
-
The smurfs In social modes are more likely people who can’t find games on their originally accounts because of 343s shoddy matchmaking system, the fact that even in social you can be excluded due to hidden ranks shows that flaw. I wouldn’t even blame those who do have to smurf just to play a game, I’d do it too if my main account couldn’t find games. There’s also people who will smurf because their main would draw in higher players vs their friends who are lower tier. I won’t argue whether it’s good/bad, but these are some reasons why even smurfs would go into social modes as well.
I was a Platinum player who once went up against a Champion 6 and a Champion 2 in SWAT.
Yuck.

If you push the benefit the abuser is looking to gain out into the future, rather than making it instantaneous, you reduce the incentive to commit the abuse. Theoretically.

I think you’re kidding yourself if you think the majority, much less a significant portion, of players create additional accounts because they can’t find matches at their appropriate rank. The latter rationale still is circumvention of the matchmaking system.

Well, I think the key word is alleviate. I’m not saying it will prevent it, just make it harder. That way you can’t just decide to create a new account just to go smurfing right away. You would at least need to build up some sort of Halo 5 history before entering ranked playlists. Now, that does nothing for social smurfing, which as you pointed out, can be completely justified depending on your circumstances, but at least it will make rank boosting that much harder.
EDIT: I threw level 25 out there just because that’s how Overwatch handles ranked play, and I think it’s a good strategy for the most part. It gives new players time to learn the game before playing competitively. But level 25 in Overwatch is more like level 50 in Halo. I really wouldn’t mind if Halo made you play a significant amount of time before you’re allowed in ranked play-lists, especially now that they have a separate section for social.
Played my 10 FFA matches the other day and one was five unranked players (me included) and one Onyx. The Onyx came in last…

ALL I PLAY IS RANKED.

GOT A MESSAGE FEOM MANAGEMENT SAYING NOT TO REPOST. NOT A MESSAGE SAYING WHAT THEY CHANGED LIKE I ASKED. NOT INFORMATION, JUST BS.YALL THE ONES MESSIN UP 343, NEVER HAD ISSUES LIKE THIS
I always find the first few weeks of a season is brutal. Rank resets and these placement matches are a terrible idea. Give it a other week or so and it’ll get better most likely… Unless too many people are still getting disconnected (it’s gotten really bad since Monitor Bounty) and stop playing all together.
343I would of been better off to have everyone start at the bottom and work there way up in rank, aka like Halo 3 style, BUT allow the player to reset there rank (or maybe go down a level or something) when either they have hit max rank and/or a certain amount of time has passed.
For example, using Halo 5 ranking system, if someone hit the rank of champion X, they would be allowed to reset there rank… Or say your a diamond x player and can’t seem to find games anymore, after say 2 months you could reset your rank. Stuff like this.
I’d also have it so your highest achieved rank and the playlist (or playlists) is shown in your profile as soon as you or anyone clicks on your profile, service record whatever.
Many players who use smurfs to purposely deceive the ranking and matchmaking systems defend it vigorously, saying that 343 does not care and even promoted it in the past. So I posed the exact question to the 343 reps here: 343 official ignorance and they won’t even acknowledge it.
I know this has been an issue. And I know that they are changing matchmaking and server’s to. Improve. Which I commend them on. But whatever they did made it 10x worse. Putting me in matches with Champs. Double surfs that are obviously Champs (I hold high diamond low onyx, I play with Champs sometimes I can tell.
