So I won five games in a row to take me from 0% diamond 1 to 20% diamond 2. Then TWO -Yoinking!- losses take me all the way back down to 0% diamond 1?! That’s some straight bs. And in those five games I won I beat a varied mix of people. Them two losses were on the map badlands (which is my least liked map). How the hell does my rank drop like that?

Did you quit the games you lost (via the start menu -> Resign)?
Leaving a game in progress will drop your rank by 60%.
It’s best to destroy your own base, and suicide any remaining units into the enemy’s army. That way, depending on your opponent’s rank, you will lose much less %.

I destroyed my base and did the suicide thing both times.

Well I thought it sounded a bit strange, because it was exactly 120% which would be the same as resigning twice, so I checked the API to see what was going on.
In your most recent match against DEADBLACK92, it is clear that you did not finish the match and that you did resign via the start menu, as you will see in the “PlayerCompletedMatch” field below.
“Players”: { “1”: { “IsHuman”: true, “HumanPlayerId”: { “Gamertag”: “DEADBLACK92”, “Xuid”: null }, “ComputerPlayerId”: null, “ComputerDifficulty”: null, “TeamId”: 1, “TeamPlayerIndex”: 0, “LeaderId”: 5, “PlayerCompletedMatch”: true, “TimeInMatch”: “PT21M54.86S”, “PlayerMatchOutcome”: 1,

Damn got that guy pretty bad with the server code. How did you get the JSON?
Edit: Nevermind, didnt know HW2 had an API
in your case you probably lost to 2 plat players. the ranking system is broken how it is. anyone can be champion. as long as you have beaten 1 champion before you can grind out 600 games verses onyx kids and low champions and become number 1. I mean when you think about it its very similar to hw1 monthly wins leaderboard.
Can someone explain how the ranking works in onyx? The number goes up when you win, I thought it was a what position you are globally? What does the number actually mean?

It works the same as the % in the ranks before it really. You get points for winning, lose points for losing.
When you get into the top 200 players AND have at least 1800 CSR, you will become champion. At that point, the number (e.g. 'Champion 180’) will mean you are rank 180, and the number will go down instead of up.
Champion #200 in 1v1 has like 1865 CSR so you would have to get at least 1866 to break into champion there now. I think the other playlists still have fewer than 200 champs so you only need 1800.
