Just watched this interview discussing the multiplayer aspects of Halo 4. The guy has some interesting things to say about how the new matchmaking system works regarding skill and ranking. “We’ve really started to focus more on skill”. Says there will be a greater emphasis on matching skill levels, and that the system for doing so is improved. Also says that Slayer Pro will have an even greater emphasis on matching the skill levels of opponents than other playlists.
I do believe 343 has really implemented skill in matchmaking but they do want to give everyone somethig while playing a MM game.
yeah i watched that too…its a good interview. I am curious to see how the slayer pro works, he said everything is going to be about 15 percent faster, as far as movement speed, reloading, etc. (NOT killtimes)…
I think we’ll all have a better idea of what the ranking system will be like in the coming weeks…and i said ranking system not progression system…AH cant wait any longer!!! hahaha!

Could it be that slayer pro might be a playlist which features a league/some form of ranking system? (to satisfy the competitive crowd?)
Would make me extremely pumped and sorta makes sense since theres no AA etc in slayer pro?
To make the actual ranking system void of the largest contribution to the series 343i has made would be lackluster to say the least. But if they do incorporate it, it’ll give them a chance to ballance the system for mlg.

Cant find a link but one of the devs stated the reason they couldnt say whether the was some sort of competitive rank system was because it was still in development so if he said there was or wasnt one he would be lying.

I can’t talk for him, but I’d assume he is talking about This.
Only request I have for ranking system, or whatever it will be, that there will be social and ranked divided. Global ranking system will only -Yoink- good players up, who don’t care for competitive gaming. I for one, would call myself decent, but I don’t enjoy getting matched up with people who rage if I’m not playing with taste of blood in my mouth, also, if it searches by player’s individual skill, how does it match you up if you play in a party with different skill levels, at range of 1-50 for example party of level 5, 22, 31 and 45? At Halo 3’s case, most of the time it was group of 4 with skill range of 40-50.

Yea this is what I was going on.
Separate ranked and social is the way forward. That way everyones happy surely? People who want competition and something on the line get what they want, people who want to just have laid back games also get what they want.
Just have to wait and see I suppose.
I find it unsettling that they’ve just now started to focus on using skill as the criteria for multiplayer matchmaking. I can’t actually think of any other sensible criteria, so I am wondering what the hell we’ve been using to meet players throughout the past couple of years.

OP: We don’t need a 1-50 ranking system. The only reason people want a 1-50 system is so they can feel good about themselves when they level up. All they care about is a number next to your name. It’s useless, really. 343i would be better off using the Arena system. It matches you up with people with the same skill level as you, but the reason it failed was because Bungie didn’t implement it correctly.

No, Slayer Pro is a game type, not a playlist. Although a Pro playlist would be cool…

Feel good about themselves? I hope that is a joke. The only serious way to judge someone based on their skill level is to incorporate a system that rewards success and thwarts failure. Maybe you don’t give a **** about losing 2, 3 or 4 games in a row, but someone who enjoys competitive play would take those losses and use them as fuel to get better. Progression is fine for the social players, but why scold the die hard halo fans that were BROUGHT UP on ranked playlists? You idiots that use the argument of “a pixel next to your name” are simply showing the level of ignorance you have toward not only the competitive scene, but the halo community as a whole.

343 has stated that they put an emphasis on finding people with “true skill” similar to your own, it’s just not visible to stop system abuse
