Can anyone tell me how the ranking system in Halo Wars works? Is it like Halo 3? Or completely different.
like halo 3 just keep playing and you will level up 
So you don’t have to win every game to rank up?
2 types of ranking… total rank which is purely points based… so no dont have to win every game to become a brigadier or general just need points. and then party rank level which is what matches you up against other players based on your level… so yes to play better people you have to win more than you lose

Ranking (General, Brigadiers etc) means only how much you have played. It has some - but not very strong - correlation to your skill level. Skill level (found in www.halowars.com) is a better - but not perfect - indicator.
point ranking system : self explanatory
true skill ranking system : basically comes down to when you win against people who have a higher trueskill than you, you will gain a lot of trueskill. But when you lose against people who have lower trueskill than you, you will lose alot of trueskill.
