Ranking System Needs Update Badly

The downside of that artificial “journey” is that it would involve playing and beating teams ranked below you.

What’s in it for them?

Grinding isn’t bad - unless it’s toxic or pointless.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

Besides, I thought the modus operandi of streamers was to smurf their accounts so they can smash players below their paygrade. Any journey is contrived. And, again, not fair on the opposition players who get sucked in.

It would have assumed your MMR from the other Ranked playlist as a starting point.

The system is still unsure at this stage. Your MMR is wide. So your CSR starts off on the left hand edge of your MMR curve.

With consistent play they can meet very quickly.

And what are they supposed to enjoy?

While you take this transcendent and spiritual journey to your sweat zone?

You can’t just have your MMR.

For a start it’s not a number - it’s a probability curve.

And it seems that 343 have taken the strategy of leaving it a bit wider and more volatile than you would expect. Definitely much less locked than an ELO rating in Chess for example. But this leaves your MMR to swing with form. And to pick up toxic players like Smurfs VERY quickly.

The downside is that you then need a CSR to “chase” your MMR in a slower, smoother, fashion.

And look, don’t get me wrong. I think 343 need to give players something to grind for. As I suggested - something like championship points for every win vs a lobby at your skill level. Have leader boards - and military ranks to earn.

Give the players something fun to grind for.

The three placements I’ve always been placed at Diamond 5. Not that long of a journey to Onyx just in general from there. I don’t play much, but I do play frequently and when I do play ranked it’s with team mates who talk and communicate.

All I see here is you defending 343 judgment.

Then you aren’t looking hard enough.

There should be an open ranked playlist for teams of four only… no matchmaking with MMR just raw CSR win and loss.

I don’t mind the FFA playlist we have now.

No points for you then. :joy:

I just need the minimum ping to be 220ms. :frowning:

That’s the unfortunate part for sure.

I’m having more fun playing ranked as I stopped worrying about what in the hell my team is doing. For example this has been the latest scenarios. Usually right away someone quits so it’s 3v4. Then I got one guy crouched in the corner waiting for god knows what or probably afk. Then I got the other dude yelling something in a language I’m not sure of over the mic (at least he has one) and we’re losing slayer like 2-89. then it dawns on me … while there is no “I” in team and it’s supposed to be group effort I did realize there is an “I” in Victory so I put on my big boy pants and press on alone headlong into a 1 v 4 battle with only a sidekick and 3 rounds of ammo. Spartans rejoice I shall go out in a blaze of glory…… seriously though ranked can be a mess but just have fun with it no matter who or what your paired up with. I used to get so frustrated with my team but sometimes they’re awesome and some teams just click so I keep playing and will try to stay positive. Just got done a few COD MW multiplayer games and they are 10x worse than infinites so we should be thankful for that.

So I can see in that screen shot they posted showing additional gained XP, which i presume only counts towards the Battlepass progression?

Ok if that’s the case it’s kind of useless. Most of us will finish this 30 level pass in a week or so…

More importantly; Does this also affect the decrease/increase of our rank progression bar? For example, if you are “MVP” of the match do you can more overall rank?

Do you mean your skill rank?

That would be a big (and emphatic) no.

There is a career progression (XP rank) coming soon. They will probably use the Winter Update to monitor how fast people accumulate XP and then introduce the formal XP rank in Season 3.

Damn, that sucks. So nothing really changing in relation to CSR and it’ll stay as it is?
IMO, this is a bigger problem then people gaining a little more XP. Like I said, most of us will clear this in no time, so is this only appealing to the casuals who play?

I whole heartedly agree that the CSR system needs some work.

Smaller scale. With a maximum cap. And only show your change post game (not everyone else’s).

Stop this toxic grind for a handful of points each game. It’s pointless. Your CSR is going to oscillate around your MMR. It’s just not precise enough to worry about. And the reality is that your skill changes over days to weeks - not game to game.

Career progression is coming.

They probably want to see how it goes with the Battle Pass and working alongside the new challenges first.

The big overhaul that’s needed is when you search with a microphone to communicate you should be matched with a team with microphones that actually communicate. This game is played so differently with communication on a team.

Hopefully they add something like that as an option when we eventually get a custom game browser.

A custom game browser has been discussed and I believe that it’s on the horizon for Halo Infinite’s lifespan.

A want to ask something. Are they changed anything in ranking system since summer?
I mean I made a break, my last games was in June I believe, I had P5, P6, D1 ranks, ups and downs.
So last week I returned to Infinite. I played social for 3 or 4 days and after that I decided go to ranked arena. I get P3 and right now I’m still sitting on P3 even unable to get P4.
Every game is a sweatfest like I’m playing against at least Diamond players, but no it’s the same P3, P4 players like myself. So what is going on with ranked arena? I can’t remember nothing like this in summer.

They broke the ranking system and made it worse since then. You should’ve stayed away.

Not that we are aware of.

It’s just the population drop.

The ranking system just sorts the available players. Bronze to Onyx. With the assumption that who is playing should fit a bell curve.

With the drop off we’ve probably lost players mostly from the left hand side of the curve. So everything shifts to the left. Hence your lower than “expected” rank. You are probably playing with and against a similar calibre of players you did before.

You can’t really compare ranks from Season to Season.

If you only let the current Onyx players through to the next season, the system will still sort them into a bell curve. It will take a while given their seeding MMRs, but they will eventually drift into a distribution Bronze to Onyx.

And it can even happen within seasons. Coming in late to grab a quick rank in the last week can be a very different experience to playing the first week. And I remember people desperately placing early in Halo 5 to get the champion rank (until they put both a minimum MMR and a time lock on it).

So. Take your rank here with a grain of salt. Hopefully we will get a bit of a population rally with the Winter Update and ranks will behave a bit more consistently with previous Seasons.

Or you can take the half glass full approach…
