Literally won 7 of 10 of my placement games in swat, got a diamond rank. Then my roommate played and won 3 of his 10 placement matches and got onyx. I’m pretty sure I could beat him 1 on 1 too so what’s up with that?

More like isn’t based at all on wins (at least for ranking, I’m aware that it’s only based on wins once you’ve been placed). I have a friend who went 3-7 in TS but had decent personal scores and got platinum. I went 6-4 and 7-3 in the two I’ve qualified in and got diamond and onyx.
Either way, it’s placing people way too high since there’s no way to derank. I’ve only seen a few golds and zero bronze/silvers. It definitely shouldn’t be “Hey, you did pretty solid that handful of games. Enjoy your permanent onyx.”
Yeah it’s not correct. I got diamond and won 9/10 with over a 2.0kd at the time. Buddy of mine won 4/10 with a .78 and got onyx
And you also get matched up with people who aren’t your rank. The CSR system is cool and could be great, but if the lobbies are harder for me in slayer (platinum) than team arena (diamond) then something’s wrong imo. Also does everyone get Onyx in swat?
I’ve noticed some people with Onyx who have no business being near that ranking based on win rate. Don’t know what the deal is there.
Well an elo system like this is perfectly fine. If you’re outplaying your rank, you will rank up… simple.
Also a note, Ranking based on 10 Matches will never be perfect. Over time it will become more accurate, the more matches you play and the variety of people you play against… the better your ranking accuracy will be. Wins/Losses are the best way to do this… as it is a team game. If you want a total individual performance ranking go play FFA…
The strength of opponents may also have an effect on your rank rise/fall ? Some details yet to be determined here, I’d love to see a detailed breakdown.

I’ve finally started seeing silvers in the occasional breakout game (I’m in plat right now), but I definitely agree with 343i not ‘officially’ counting the first month as a ranked season. I’m assuming this is because there’s just not enough people playing yet so ranks get filled from the top down (i.e. champion, then onyx, then diamond, then plat etc). However, they will need to preserve CSR across seasons for new placements (adjusting through the 10 initial matches), then the ranking should gain decent accuracy after a couple of seasons.
Overall though, I’m in diamond for slayer, getting matched with plats, diamonds and onyxs and competing as I would expect from an evenly matched game (usually very close matches with most people circling closely to a 1.0 k/d).

Also depends on how many people have finished the 10 pre games in each playlist… (Fewer people, more positions)

No he doesn’t, I sat and watched all his placement games. He averaged barley above a 1 kd and won only 3 of his 10 matches. Don’t believe me? Look at his stats, his gt is Invadernate97
So this whole time i thought i was so damn good but now my life is as lie!
The most important qualifying factor people seem to forget: STRENGTH of opponent when ranking based on the Qualifying matches.
It’s not just your performance, but how you perform against players in other ranks and skill levels.
I’m already diamond 3 in swat and gold 3 in slayer and so far I been winning couple of matches and been on a winning streak
Platinum in slayer only 4 wins
Onyx in FFA 2 wins lol, but got enough 2nd places
I can confirm that personal quality of play matters when your placing into your rank. My bro and I both played 10 games straight of team arena, he played better than i did. He ended up with plat and i got gold. So individual performance within games(regardless of win or loss) matter when placing into your rank.
