You kind of need a mind set of riding out the ebbs and flow.
There will be games you lose more than you thought you should. Just as there will be those where you are surprised you got as much as you did. So there is no point getting hung up on the result of any one game.
And nor should you. Your overall rank doesn’t pivot on one result. It will all come out in the wash.
I’ve wished many times that they didn’t show the CSR number. It puts too much focus on an individual game. They should either just have Tiers/Divisions or maybe just award/show your rank on a weekly basis.
I know the number goes up and down - but in reality your rank doesn’t. Not a lot. And it should move over the course of days or weeks. Maybe a bit shorter? But definitely not on a game by game basis.
I really don’t think a CSR change of 15 points has any real significance within the accuracy of the system. At least, not in the context of 1 game.
Yeah 15 CSR is absolutely nothing. Of course if people play ranked infrequently their MMR will suffer.
I don’t want a player on my team that can’t hold their own in a reduced MMR game, it makes sense to take this approach to protect those that play ranked frequently.
I haven’t played in a month, so if I played ranked today, I should be in a hugely reduced MMR game and if I don’t absolutely smash the daylights out of everyone then my CSR should suffer along with my MMR until I can perform appropriately.
You guys just never let me complain in peace, do you?
I’ve certainly had 6 win streaks that don’t gain 15 CSR. So, from a player perspective, it feels like maybe an hour and a half of progress down the drain for a game I had a 5% chance of winning. I guess I just felt like “what am I supposed to do”, ya know?
Yeah the 6% win game us BS to be fair. I wonder if matchmaking numbers are that low or if the system still prioritises speed after too short a time. There’s literally no point putting a game together like that.
Did you have fun winning 6 games in a row? This system is pants for grinding, but it’s fun for generally more balanced accurate games so I like it but that’s because I don’t care about increasing rank. I don’t mind if I’m 1300 or 1600 if most of my games are fun. Yeah your rank didn’t progress but you played 7 games and won 6, I’d enjoy that (provided the games aren’t blowouts).
Sure, I had fun. It’s still halo after all, which is why I almost always come crawling back. But I’m playing ranked to be competitive and try to rank up. So, it’s frustrating from that perspective.
If you truly don’t care about your rank, I’m surprised you don’t play social, since those games are still balanced on MMR? Outside weapons differences, it seems like you would be more of a fit for social based on your perspective.
The rank is the whole point of ranked, in my opinion. The name, and all. I wouldn’t play six rated chess games and -not- care about how my ELO (or Glicko-2 if we’re being persnickety) changed, it’s the point of playing rated chess, and I’d play unrated if I didn’t care.
Ranked is fun for me because I like playing close and competitive games that come down to the wire. You get them more often in ranked than social because ranked is balanced by players, not team like social is. Social you could have an Onyx and three Bronze players Vs four Platinum players. In ranked my games are usually 8 onyx players so the games play completely differently to social where the game plan can end up being to get 40 kills on players below my skill level before they can kill my teammates 41 times.
I just find the ranked games exciting, I want to win them. My rank is unimportant but those wins that are 50-49 or 3-2, or just with a huge comeback are everything that I need.
The BR starts not being available anywhere else helps too.
I’m pretty good at Halo so it can sometimes be difficult to enjoy social because it is missing a lot of what I enjoy most about Halo. Realistically I want to play against people that are very good, and more specifically beat them or learn from them. I enjoy the strategies that come into play that often don’t happen in social because you don’t have a fully cohesive team of high ranking players.
The the opposite is true for Big Team, I don’t want to play with anyone good. I’m not there to be a tryhard, I want to have fun. Use the whole sandbox, vehicles, mess around. I don’t need to use meta strategies, I just want some chaos. Only games I play well in for Big Team are when I’m doing challenges.
