I’ve seen a lot of people saying they think the ranking system should be based on individual performance, and not wins/losses. I just want to say that sounds ridiculous.
To all those who complain about losing games because their teammates ‘suck’ and that they subsequently shouldn’t be ranked down because they did well anyway:
Have you considered that you’re just a horrible teammate with good gun skill? I’ve had games where my 3 teammates were good at aiming, knew the maps well and knew when to go for (and not to go for) power weapons, BUT they were about as organised as a box of drunk hamsters so we lost.
Team playlists should 100% definitely be based on wins/losses because competitive Halo is based around working well AS A TEAM. Sure, tweak point gains/losses a bit by individual KDA if you want, but you shouldn’t be rewarded for losing but getting a good k/d. If you lose, you should rank down; If you win, you should rank up. Simple.
TL;DR
If you lose, no matter what your k/d is, it’s 1/4 your fault.
Whether the implementation works or not, basing on wins/losses is still the right way to go.

It would not be bad if it “worked.” Basing it on wins is good, but individual performance should still be factored in to an extent. Also, the way this games arena is built makes it near impossible to win or play decently as a solo player unless facing clueless opponents.

Individual performance should only be the smallest factor, if considered at all. It is too hard to judge between good player and bad team member.
As the post you made points out, the system is obviously broken because it seems as though the first people to rank are going straight to champion/onyx. But (and I’m making an assumption here) I’m certain 343 will maintain CSR across seasons (in a similar way to StarCraft 2’s ranking system) such that you still do placements, to get your new rank, but your previous CSR is taken into account for those placements and only reset after an entire season of not placing in a ranked division.
IF this is not the plan, it certainly should be or your ranking system will NEVER WORK 343. You’re intelligent people. Don’t -Yoink- it up.
This Ranking system is very broken. It should solely be based on how much postivite or negative impact you typically make. Getting ranked well above your skill level if you happen to get carried while in placement matches puts you up against players that out class you once ranked. A friend ended up too highly ranked in Arena and Swat which lead to him being completely destroyed and always outmatched every single game he tried to play after getting ranked.
Its broken. Apparently the issues where players leave the game was not addressed in this update which also has a big impact on your W/L ratio. The chances of winning the game 3v4 are slim in H5. The opposite effect as LIGARS points out, is being able to carry your team every single game an have no chance for yourself to move upward in ranking because people intermittently leaving your games. Not everyone has the schedule to play with a team and this is the player who is losing out. Do guys do it ? Yes, but it is probably 90% with a team that rank up.
Halo 5 has the worst ranking system possible, I went 8-2 in my first ten Breakout matches of near complete domination and got low level Bronze. In Slayer I’m Platinum 5 after an average 6-4 in ten games. There’s literally no sense to this system.
In Response to the original quote, your argument is moot. The Rank system SHOULD be based on individual performance, it’s an individual Rank. Simple as that. In games where I’m 21-8 and lose, it’s not 1/4 my fault, it’s my team mates fault that went 3-17.
I’m not pretending I’m some “pro” either, just an average player.
