Every game I play there are unranked players and low ranked Golds in with Diamonds, high Platinums and frequently Onyxes. Then they get do terribly, ruin the game, quit, and I then have the choice of having a game where I get killed by 4-1, 4-2 or quitting.
This ruins it for all involved. The low ranks or players new to the game aren’t going to be endeared to a game where they get matched up with people who know how to play well and just own them, nor a game which punishes them for quitting out of their unevenly matched games. Neither will the higher ranks want to stick around playing a game that is constantly uneven, with a broken matchmaking system.

It’s not just that I don’t want quitting. I want even matches. Playing in a team also doesn’t stop the opposing team from having disparate ranks and from them quitting.

Probably just boosting. Onyx players play with gold players and therfore play against other gold players.

I don’t think so, it’s happening constantly. Even new, unranked players are getting matched into teams with Diamond ranks etc. They do badly and quit.

A couple of seasons ago, I played arena with 3 of my friends that are all in gold while I was Onyx. I went 34-0 and would of had the Unfrig if the game didn’t end. This example shows how it works. If everyone is gold and one player is Champ, then that team will match golds.

I understand what you’re saying. This is happening all the time though, not in the occasional instance where one higher rank is matched with several others of the same rank. It’s happening across multiple ranks. I’m Diamond rank in Slayer, I’ve a positive K/D, nothing special but I’m reasonably good. In my last game there were 2 unranked, 3 golds, and 2 platinums. The game before that there was an unranked player who’d only ever played a handful of games. He went -9 and quit. He shouldn’t be in a game with a player like me. He should be with Silvers and other unranked players. It’s absurd.
Yup when i got this account i won a FFA (first game played in FFA) with like 12 more deaths than kills and then the next game i played i played with a onyx and platinum and the rest low golds luckily i stood my ground and got 2nd or 3rd.
I think I’ve been slowly seeing this happen too. I have just assumed that it is a reflection of a shrinking population…which only seems natural for the lifecycle of a game that has been out for a year.
This probably gets magnified by the day and time you play too. (I’d expect the population to be pretty low if it’s early in the day on a weekday.)
That said, I certainly share your frustration with match making and quitters. Further, like you, I’m looking for balance and evenness…I don’t want to be steamrolled by higher ranked players, and I don’t want to steamroll lower ranked players. I love the matches that come down to the wire…and they’re becoming much less frequent (both Arena and Warzone).

I hear you! Close matches and even games is where the fun’s at. I wish 343 would be more transparent with their population numbers and times of heavy traffic so that we could factor that into deciding when to play.
