Ranking System Ideas

PLEASE bring back TrueSkill like Halo 3 had. Reach’s ranking system just showed how much you play the game, not your actual skill level. Halo 3 gave you a rank based on your highest skill in a playlist, which was a good indicator of how good you are at the game. Plus, it gave you different “grades” of each rank to show how much EXP you have earned.

Reach is a lot like CoD, which means the ranks take no talent, just time. All it shows is that you play the game way too much. You can still give credits to purchase armor and such, but why make a ranking system that doesn’t actually rank you?

We don’t even know the ranking system in Halo 4 so why is it titled “Halo 4 ranking system vs Reach”. Also, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what ranking system 343i has in store.

Rank was probably the hottest topic in the H3 forums because it was so easy to manipulate. Reach “ranks” your devotion to the game.

Your “reward” for being a good player should be matches with nothing but other good players, and when you get better you get matched with better players. Under those conditions no one will care what your “rank” is.

No, no, no. Halo 3’s rank did nothing but promote boosting, deranking, mutli-accounting, all of which ruined the experience for several players. A system that does all that should never return.

Halo Reach had it right by making the primary ranking system an experience based system, and creating “the Arena” for the competitive. Now, Arena obviously needs a lot of refinement, but it’s a better option than anything resembling 1-50

Halo 2 system anyone?

HALO 2!
YEAH!

Trueskill IS in Reach, it’s just invisible. I highly prefer Reach’s ranking system as it does show true devotion to the game.

Halo 3’s and Reach’s ranking systems both suck. Halo 2’s was the only one that showed how good you were. (Or how good you were at cheating LOL but that will always happen when rank actually means something so people want it really badly.)

> Halo 2 system anyone?

Perhaps, but leveling up rank in that game was insane. Too slow for modern day shooters :stuck_out_tongue: But…at least it worked. I didn’t think Halo 3’s was THAT bad, hell at least it paired me up with someone close to my rank.

Reach…i know it’s working but due to low population levels it picks what it can and leaves it at that. Still…it seems random and i am sticking to that.

Trueskill (or whatever else)= Rank
cR= Armor

This would be best.
IMO anyways…

Hidden trueskill ranks that are actually enforced.

Visible global ranks based on time spent.

You mean by trying to force TrueSkill into a progression system and giving a second class progression system to everyone else?

> Reach’s ranking system just showed how much you play the game, not your actual skill level.

There are two ranking systems in Reach.

> which was a good indicator of how good you are at the game.

Hitting a bullseye once then never hitting it again isn’t indicative of skill. Hitting a bullseye consistently is.

Two things should be done with H4. The first to bring your skill based rank into more prominence. Right now your Arena rank is treated like a red headed step child, just like Playlist Ranks in H3.

The second would be to have ranked playlists in Reach that make close matchups of players. Right now TrueSkill has been geared towards getting the average team TrueSkill within 5 points of each other. This is leading towards games where there is one exceptional person and a combination of average/horrible people being faced off against a similar combo. Ranked playlists in H4 (no duplicate playlists, we don’t need a Social SWAT and a Ranked SWAT) should match players that are within five TrueSkill ranks of every other player in that game.

Something that shows how good I am compared to the rest of the community.

Match me up against people slightly better, worse and just as good as I am.

I don’t think Reach’s system ever got a fair chance. Too many people hated bloom and AA’s so they either didn’t play or, worse, went into matchmaking with the intent of screwing up games so that everyone would quit. Lot’s of lopsided/unfinished games in Reach.

I think it would be fair to give Reach’s system a second chance in CEA since that game is the definition of “true Halo”. There shouldn’t be any complaining about the game mechanics so all the “good” players should be back. If after a few months players are still not getting fair games then maybe we’ll find out what’s really wrong.

Halo 3’s ranking or Halo 2’s ranking is a much better idea than Reach.

At least make it so that you’re matched up with players of your skill level. Any time I play Reach or Halo 3, I’m on a team with a few guys that get 2 kills and go -12 or some BS. It’s VERY frustrating.

Wouldn’t that be happening anyway, since they’re using the Reach Multiplayer?

This. ^

If the 1-50 trueskill from H3 came back I would be very happy.

the dumb ranking system in reach that is based on progression and not actual skill made me care less about the game.

Exactly. It just made it feel like they were trying to copy CoD. There was no incentive to play ranked either. It’s just earning credits every time you play for no real reason besides armor.
