Ranking system for halo infinite

What do you guys want it to be like?
The competitive rank and the xp rank

I like the tier Ranking system in halo 5 but I would love to see the 1-50 skill ranking return if it’s a 3 month seasonal reset and instead of having just a bland 152 xp rank turn it into emblems like how reach had it!

I hope for meaningful ranks, as in military rank ones that seem more like rewards themselves.
And whether the rank is calculated by separated or united skill/xp ranks doesn’t matter to me that much, as long as both are present in some form.

I dont think the competitive ranking system should change at all. Many other online games have similar ranking systems and it seems appropriate. Although 6 levels per tier seems a little excessive to me. (Gold 6?, Platinum 6?) Why not stop at 4 levels instead of 6? Does it really matter? Probably not.

Now as far as xp rank goes, I just posted another thread ranting about this in the matchmaking forum. I personally think it takes way to long to get to max rank. I’ve heard that on average it could take as long as 5+ months to go from 151 to 152. I just think that’s excessive. To rank up completely from 1 to 152 I’m sure it probably takes longer than a year. On the one hand, I’m not asking to make it so easy that anyone can do it in a week. But 1+ years to completely rank up seems wholly excessive.

Say what you will about Call of Duty, I always liked their exp ranking system. When your reach max level, you prestige and rank resets, bringing you to a new tier with a new symbol and bonuses. I wouldnt mind seeing Halo enact a rank prestige system. What do you think?

Agree, it doesn’t feel special when ranks are named “Spartan rank 152” etc. Should be a name with unique symbol, and depending on the amount of ranks it can also be supplemented by a number for convenience.
ex: “rank 69: Inheritor” with a unique symbol. I think mcc ranks is a step in the right direction from halo 4 or 5.

Halo 3 social exp and ranked 1-50 system but instead of TruSkill use the Halo 2(or MCC) to determine your rank.

I wouldn’t mind the rank structures that’s in Halo 5 to be reused. The XP and CSR ranks just work pretty well in my opinion.

I think Halo needs two kinds of rankings as a general standard: One based on the time and general commitment you spent into the game in multiplayer (Halo 5), and the other is based on your actual skill on how you fare against the rest using the Kill/Death ratio along with the Win/Loss ratio (like Halo 3).

When I see every online video game that gives people a high overall rank but are just scattershots or just have no idea what they’re doing is just a false impression that is rather dishonest, if not hinder the skill accuracy in ranked matches or even social games.

If Infinite brings back Halo 3’s ranking system but also has another one based on general commitment (MP games completed) and not actual skill added separately, it might be more honest and informative or something. Imagine in the matchmaking lobbies there are two numbers next to the Gamertag with different icons that represent their skill and commitment, with the skill rank with a brain or fist icon in the background in-front of the commitment rank with a clock as the background of that one.

If you want to fight strong, you must know who or what you’re REALLY up against. A spartan (or elite) should not look like a brute at first and then fight like a grunt in the action…

My opinion…

I want a fusion like halo 3 had, but the exp like halo 5. I prefer if max rank is very, very hard to get. Halo 5/reach were hard to get, but could be don’t by people who played regularly, and i think thats fair. But i do miss needing to hit a set skill to rank up, and i wish all the new skill ranks effected you overall rank, like halo 3.

Oh and i want military ranks, not numbers

I will say this, and I know some of you above have said similar things. I definitely agree and feel that you should get mor or less experience per game based on performance. I played a ton of games this week and noticed that no matter how good or bad I do, not including req packs, the amount of experience I get doesn’t change. I could be #1 on my team with a +10 K/D or I could be last on my team with a -5 K/D and I generally get the same experience. The experience obviously changes for wins and losses but for the most part everyone on the team basically gets the same exp. It’s annoying to bust my balls to win a match and be awarded the same as someone who almost made us lose the match. Plus hard work and skill should be rewarded. I also think the higher your rank in ranked play maybe a bonus. It gets harder the higher your rank, so more exp should be awarded.

I’m not sure if your talking about a skill ranking system or experience one but here’s my take.

An experience system similar to Halo 3/Reach. Doing anything gets you XP (minus Forge as this could be boosted) and ranks would have names. Maybe like reach, I don’t know. This rank obviously affects skill in no way. It’s purely a “look how much I played this game” rank.

Skill based I want to see a playlists ranked based purely on wins/loses like Halo 3. When you win everyone you goes up. When you lose everyone goes down. Everyone goes up or down the same amount. You win as a team, you lose as one. On top of that, I want an individual ranks as well.

So for example (using the Halo 5 system here) I could be a Diamond 6 in say Team Slayer and Diamond 3 in Team Arena but my overall individual rank is a Platinum 6. My individual rank would be my rank combined acoss all ranked playlists. This is based off of your kills, assists, +/- and deaths. Meaning that if people look at my profile, they’ll see that I’m a decent player in Team Slayer and Team Arena but I obviously must play with better players as I have a higher rank then my individual rank (no more bragging that you’re a champ in Team Slayer If your individual rank is a low diamond as everyone will know the real deal)

I just feel the current Halo 5 system is too frustrating for too many people. Things like assists don’t matter when you win…like at all! (which I don’t care that the data says they don’t, they absolutely do!) Winning still matters to go up obviously, but after that the only thing that really matters is the number of kills and death you got (this is from ZaedynFel himself who runs ranking system) which again, in a team playlist, individual stats should not matter in my opinion. Winning is all that matters.

People hate winning and seeing one player on the team go up a lot, and a other barely does but they did better individually and stats wise that match. Everyone is left scratching their heads and poking fun of the system. The system I propose gets ride of all that. The people who want ranks to be based on individual play (which I have always thought is absolutely ridiculous in a team playlist) will get recognized for there individual play even if they loose the match. So a other example is, I just lost a match of Team Slayer so my rank goes down because I lost…but I had an incredible game so my individual rank goes up and the people who want the team playlists to be based off purely wins and looses get that as well.

As far as seasons go, I’ll admit I’m not big on them but I understand them. I think a happy medium is what they are currently doing in Halo 5 now and making them as long as the actual seasons. So you have the Winter, spring, summer and fall seasons, so each one is about 3 months.

I also think the system I propose will allow people to play with their friends more that aren’t as good as them. Yes your team rank might still go down, but at least your individual rank won’t if you play well. Kind of a happy medium.

Also as a side note, I would show your average damage dealt per playlist, shooting % and shots fired in your profile (with everything that is already there, kills, assists, deaths etc) as well amongst your stats. I want all stats in game. No more of this you have to go to the website to look at your stats fully, everything is IN GAME.

Hopefully they’ll return to the military ranks for XP as opposed to the bland number ranks we’ve been getting recently.
As for competitive rankings, I think the system that we had in Halo 5 is adequate honestly, basic and to the point.

Reach had a great military system that made you happy when you leveled up. Do it the Reach Way.

Your internal skill level will be TrueSkill. How they translate that into a number (eg. 1-50) or a division (eg. Gold 5) doesn’t really matter.
I didn’t like the format change with Onyx / Champion (not that I am even close to that level) - it just confuses things.
But whatever, as long as there are regular resets (seasons) to minimise the abuse.

I’m 50:50 on the Spartan Rank 1-152 vs the military system. There were just too many military ranks and half the time I had no appreciation of who was what. But on the same token… I don’t think many people fully appreciate how much effort is required to nail the last few ranks in Halo 5. What I don’t like with Halo 5 is the Req cards that boost your XP - either you do the grind or don’t. The grind also encourages people to play in a way that specifically farms XP… which isn’t necessarily good for the game. Maybe it should be purely based on hours played (but with a small % boost for winning the game) - that way campaign = arena = warzone.

And finally… I think there should be a reputation ranking. So people know that you are a team player / not a quitter. It could be a compilation of (mainly) game completion and feedback from team-mates.

Eg. You are General / 3 Star Platinum / 93%

The ‘General’ is your Spartan Rank based on the number of hours you play (1.25x for winning). The ‘3 Star Platinum’ is your skill ranking (same as Platinum 3). The % is a composite of team-mate feedback and number of completed games.

The Halo 3 ranking system would be ideal, I dont know why we have not gone back to it

I would like to see military ranks again. Seeing military ranks fits for Halo since it is a military styled sci-fi shooter after all.

Oh yeah, and I liked it that Reach had a mix of real military ranks with made up ranks. (I don’t think Hero is a rank in the military.)

Oh my gosh, I’ve said military 5 times in this one post (make that 6.)

As long as there is no awful handicap system, I’ll be happy.

Being forced to play on the worse team all the time because I do better than the average player is no fun.

I don’t mind the way Halo 4 and 5 do it with experience and skills being seperatef. But if they decide to have a similar ranking system as past titles, the only thing I want is when a player leaves a match, the points that was meant for them is distributed to the players who stayed.

Id like a halo 3 one back.

Is there anyone in the known universe that disagrees with the consensus that Halo 3 had the best ranking and exp system? It seems like everyone I know on these forums (myself included) are shouting from the rooftops to bring Halo 3’s ranking/exp system back. Come on 343!

Agreed, numbers are too bland. Everyone understand military ranks… just make it like those.
