I like what 343 are trying to do with the ranking system. The concept of play ten games and then being put into a rank I think is better than forcing every single person to grind through multiple levels until they finally get to the one that actually matches their skill level, however, there’s a problem I’ve been having.
In TS, I’m an Onyx I and have been this whole time, however, I’ve reached two points short of leveling to Oynx II a good seven times now and then get knocked back down, this is for one of three reasons. 1. The game suddenly teams me up with two players who are going -10 or worse in a match. 2. The game puts me up against a full party of players who are way ahead of me in rank, even though I’m still at Onyx I. 3. Teammates quit the game because they didn’t get the sniper rifle for their 1337 360 No Scope Montage 420xx.
It’s infuriating to constantly win games, get one match away from leveling up and then losing those points simply because I got unlucky.
As I said, I like the idea of the ranking system at it’s core, but these problems really do make it frustrating. Here’s some ideas to help fix these.

Don’t penalize a player for quitting if they are the only person left on a team: If I’m in a 1v4 match against good players, where it’s impossible to get a kill, and I quit because I don’t feel like dying forty times or waiting 10 mins (nor do I want to waste the other team’s time) why should I get deducted points for that? It has nothing to do with skill, my teammates either had something else to do, got dropped by connections or were just sore losers that quit early.

Make the performance rewards more consistent: I haven’t done the full research online, so please correct me here if I’m wrong about this. There have been matches I didn’t play very well in, yet still got lots of points for winning the match. Other times, I could do very well, and not get many points for winning at all. If these points were a little more consistent, it would make the grind back up to the edge of a level less frustrating. It’s annoying to loose twenty rank points because I got disconnected from a match, and then have to win four more games to catch back up again.

Don’t deduct points from a player if they did very well in a game where their team lost, or make their deduction of points minimal: Losing points because of someone else’s mistakes that you can’t do anything about is just annoying and not fun in any way.
If anyone else has some other ideas on how to tweak this ranking system or if anyone else is also having this problem, be sure to leave a post.
