Ok, so me and my buddy did our 10 holiday double games yesterday. We were a pretty good team and won 8/10. Our two losses were by a combined 4 kills I believe. But…at the end of this he got ranked platinum 3, which I still thought was kinda low and I got a gold 2.
I know what your thinking, “oh well it also counts individual performance so he probably carried you”.
So lets go to the stats
Players: KDA Klls Deaths Assist
Bonappy: 8.6 141 73 42
Keimnaught: 2.7 99 87 31
I performed better than my buddy 9 out of 10 games!!! This is literally small team slayer so i’m not sure what other factors are put into ranking but this is ridiculous. I dominated more than I did in team arena( which i played by myself) and I got a diamond. I am really curious as to what the explanation could be.
Me and him were just dying laughing when the ranks came out so at least there was some silver lining but someone please explain this to me.
It’s all about perspective. The individual person determines what he or she takes seriously. Yes, there are flaws in this system, but it works most of the time. I’ve also read on others posts about your preseason rank also plays a role in what you get in season 1. Not sure if that true or not.

Yeah man some transparency would really help. I really don’t get it, i out performed my bud in every category. I wonder if kda is even taken in consideration.

Look, I like your neutrality but this isn’t a “flaw”, this is a glaring error. I could see if it was team arena and I was just k/d boosting but he was playing objectively, that would make complete sense. This was slayer, i want to get better as a player and thats not gonna happen if i get stuck with golds especially if i’m performing like that. It is ridiculous.
I got placed in correct ranks. Looks like it doesn’t work all the time. I don’t expect it to be 100% accurate, but it does need to be better. However, it’s not a big deal. If you got placed low then just start playing matches and you will end up where you belong.
A question I have is does it (when unranked) tried to place you in games with other people close to your last season rank. Because you can got 10-0 with great stats but if it is against people that would normally be placed in the Bronze division your not proving that you are any good defeating them.
I have said and continue to say that the ranking system has got to be one of the worst ever. A single individual should not have to depend on other randoms to get to rank up. I fully understand that win/loss should matter to a certain degree. But not to the amount it currently does. After all if we are properly matched most peoples win/loss ratio should be near 1 plus or minus a tenth. It is my opinion that rank should consist of K/D + W/L + XP +Gun accuracy + Average Grenade kills per game. If properly matched, the W/L and K/D would level out over time and XP would eventually hit max level. However gun Accuracy and average grenade kills will still separate the good from the bad.

I see where you are coming from. My brother and I were placed in different ranks in the Preseason for slayer, Onyx for myself and he was placed Diamond. We knew we were both on equal skill, so all we did was grind through the diamond ranks and got the Onyx. Keep playing with your buddy because you will be placed against Gold and Plat people and will rank up faster than just playing Gold matches. When playing solo, I send out invites to the top players in the game and the majority of the time people will join your party because they are having the same experience as you are.

What I have noticed in the Preseason, is the first game is usually with Bronze/Silver ranked players. It then bases your game (personal stats and if you won or not) to then place in the next game that has Silver-Gold people and so on and so on. If you struggle in a certain rank, the system will bump you down to the previous rank and then will calculate the best rank for your performance during those 10 games. As I said before, this is based on my past experience, not sure if this is true or not.

Yeah I know I can grind out of it but It takes so long to grind through ranks. By time i get to a diamond or onyx the season will be ending.

Seems fitting, I did also notice when I got placed in Swat is was Gold 4, don’t judge lol had some bad games, was Diamond 4 last season. Last season in every playlist after completing the 10 qualifying matches I was always placed Plat 1, gold 1, diamond 1, Always tier 1 of whichever Division I was placed into, then you had to work up from here. Now maybe that was just me but getting ranked Tier 4 was nice at least I have less climbing to do to get to the next Division.

I’ve never been a bronze or a silver in anything but I can’t control who it puts us against. There is also a reality to who is playing at the time as well on a particular playlist but that being said, there is still no justification for me getting a lower rank in my scenario.
It can go the other way too. I did my 10 qualifying games in slayer last night and was matched against fairly weak players for the first two games, then thrown in my Onyx and Diamond players for the other 8 and really struggled. In those 8 games I had the fewest kills on my team on 5 occasions, and the 3rd fewest on the other 3 games. It was a struggle to compete.
At the end I was put in Diamond 3. To be fair I do a good job of not dying and supporting my team, but I feel like I should be no higher than Platinum at best.

On xbox it showed up as a 8.6 so idk. I know the amount of games is formulated in there as well. I think on xbox it said his was like a 3.7 or something wonky.

I’m not saying that you ever were or are a Bronze rank player. I’m saying and I know this is unlikely but if for instance if my Wife who has NEVER touched halo started an acct and you played that type of player 10 matches, and you go 10-0 with 15.7+ K/D should you be placed in Onyx or Champion divisions?
No because no matter your skill you played against the bottom of the barrel. You have a running CSR in the background that you don’t see and part of the formula during the qualifying has to be the CSR of the opponent, so there is a baseline to compare to. Not to mention there are going to be “flaws” “holes” “errors” whatever you want to call them because its giving you a ranked based on 10 games. which is nothing that sample size is tiny, 10 games, most of us have played 100’s if not 1,000’s of games.
