Ranking/Placement/Random Teams

I feel like there are some simple things that can be done to help fix problems with the quality of players that you are matched with in multiplayer, but I will get to those later. For now these seem to be two scenarios that I run into.

  1. I get a pretty solid team that destroys the other team by 20 plus kills in slayer (Uncommon.)
  2. I get an awful team that gets destroyed by 20 plus kills in slayer (Common.)

Rarely there is a situation where both teams are evenly matched and it is an intense fight to the finish.

The other issue that I experience a lot is, playing well myself, but my entire team is awful. This results in a loss in rank, and makes it very difficult to rank up. The easy answer for me would be to get a team and stop playing with randoms, but this proves to be difficult when I work and go to school full time. I enjoy playing Halo 5 in my spare time, and love being competitive, but it is difficult to rank up and be competitive when you cannot win. One example of this happening is me going 20-10 in a slayer match and the other members of the team are as follows: 8-11, 8-16, and 2-13. This is a somewhat extreme case, but it is not the worst case of this happening. This problem is especially big in objective based game types.

Here are a few of my suggestions to help with this unbalance.

  1. Bronze and Silver ranks exist, I believe that more people should be placed into those two brackets.
  2. The skill range for Gold and Platinum ranks needs to be narrowed. I believe my first suggestion could help this out by putting the lower skilled players in Gold and Plat into the lower brackets, Bronze and Silver.
  3. Players that are still placing into their ranks should only play against players that are going through placement matches as well instead of mixing them into gold and platinum games. I think this will help with mixing in players that are either at a much higher skill level or a much lower skill level than players ranked Gold or Platinum.
  4. If someone leaves the game because of lag, or lack of wanting to continue the match, they should be replaced by someone else. I would have no issue with coming into a game half way through. That is my opinion though.

Let me know what you think.

My friend and I both did our placement matches for Team Arena together(same for doubles, but the results were mirrored). I was placed silver five, he was placed platinum three. Confused, we compared stats, and found I was significantly more lethal than he(about 20 kills more and 12 deaths less over the ten games, about the same assists.) I shrugged it off as being the same preseason craziness that saw me diamond in one playlist and silver in another, and we determined to raise ranks to meat him. What I encounter was similar to you, lots of terrible players, but I was often teamed with them. The enemy team, in the other hand, almost always showed ridiculous team work, strategy, and individual skill. I think it’s smurfing, but it could just be that I have terrible luck. Anyways, I think the reason you are having issues with shotty players in the upper tiers is because, whether intentionally or not, a lot of players are winding up in the lower tiers despite their skill. I’m sure it’s great for their K/D and KDA
