Ranking Algorithm?

How does it work? I wont 8 out of the 10 placement games, would of been 9 but on my tenth our teammate thought it would be fun to make us all one shot the entire game cause he didnt get rockets. Anyways, won 8 out 10 with a 2.9 KDA and got ranked diamond 3, what does it take to be ranked onyx right off the bat?

What were the enemies ranked at? And what were you ranked at last season? The only time ive placed onyx off the bat was when I was facing nothing but onyx.

most players i was playing against were actually unranked at the time i played them, but towards the end i was playing high diamonds. Also my buddy played the games with me and he won 7 out of 10 with a 1.3 KDA and got ranked gold 3

Without knowing the actual algorithm used .
I assume it bases your rank off your performance of the ranks (or estimated ranks) of the people you verse

Eg if you get a 5 KD against golds you will be placed much higher than gold, but if you go super negative then placed lower.
I assume that your win percentage is also a large factor as well.

Consequently to place high (say onyx) you have to be playing at an onyx level , either against onyx players , or dominating in diamond (although more difficult to actually get into onyx if not versing onyxs )

Would have to agree. I remember reading that the system predicts how you’ll do against the competition in any given game. If you play a lower-ranked opponent and lose, you’ll face a big drop. If you face a lower-ranked opponent and win, you’ll either stay stationary or move up slightly. If you play against a higher-ranked opponent and lose, you may stay stagnant or slightly down, but if you play a higher-ranked opponent and win, you’ll make a big gain.

Wins and streaks come into play as well…and I believe that the system takes your previous season’s rank into consideration during the first 10 games of a new season.

That sounds a fair and actually quite a solid assumption, however if that really is the case, it has to be the most stupid way of ranking people. Ever. Essentially, we need to wait a week or so whilst everyone else get’s their ranks first before we play, so that we have a better chance of getting a high rank.

It’s logical, don’t get me wrong, but there are better ranking systems out there i’m sure.

Essentially, hunt down the highest ranking player on the team and run them in to the ground.

your complaining? In all but 3 games I got well over a 2 kdr not kda many medals including killing frenzies, snapshots, perfects. My accuracy was always above 50% and it got many style medals like top gun. The only game I didn’t go positive in was one versing a full team (always being teamshot or bait and switched) and I only didn’t go positive by 1). After all of this I was boasting to my friends that I would be really surprised if I didn’t get ranked onyx and I get ranked -Yoinking!- platinum 5.

not complaining, just wanted to know what the algorithm was looking for when deciding where to place a player

I agree that’s it’s dumb. There’s too much left to chance. Waiting a week doesn’t matter either. I have played numerous matches in FFA with only a day or so left in a season and played all unranked opponents. Hunting down a high level players doesn’t matter either in a team game because you have to beat the entire team. That situation only matters in FFA.
