Ranked will now use CSR-Based Matchmaking! Tashi343i and Unyshek confirms on Twitter. Thoughts?

This just in, “Based on Player feedback, this morning we deployed an update to the ranked Playlists in Halo:Infinite to match players based on CSR rather than hidden MMR. This should promote a more upfront and transparent ranked experience.”

Thoughts on this?

Pros: more transparent, simpler

Cons: really opens the door for smurfing/boosting more than before

Unknown: is it just the matchmaking that is based on CSR only now? Will CSR gains/losses per match still rely on MMR as it does now?

I wonder if this will make finding matches more complicated now?

Team Snipers has also finally been fixed. They removed Brute Snipers from the playlist.

I’ll be curious to see that as well. I was stuck in gold for a while and made a lot of friends I enjoy playing with that are there. Sitting P6/D1 now, is it going to be harder to find games when we’re playing in a stack?

For people (like myself) who complained about rank lock, it’s about to get put to the test! Candidly I expect to beat the crap out of some people that are now going to be matching on my CSR, but maybe it’s time to be humbled!

If anything - I’m glad they’re willing to try different things.

It will be interesting.

I think most people overestimate how much their MMR drifts away from their CSR. It’s not a hidden evil - and it’s an easy target for when your CSR doesn’t match your ego.

Matching on CSR shouldn’t be too different?

You won’t get MMR adjustments for form or time away from the game. So warming up will be very important.

The form one will be interesting. It could push out more uneven games.

Streaks (W or L) will be longer if you are having a form change. But it may also just balance out with other team members?

And squads will become even more powerful - as you won’t have the MMR boost awarded to them.

It sounds like your MMR is still sitting there in the background - so I think CSR changes will need to be boosted a bit so that your CSR and MMR match a bit better.

Smurf accounts will be hard to control. Previously your MMR would go up very quickly and you’ll start to match appropriately. Now you are locked at a CSR rise of 15 per match. Maybe they will have a special circumstance to change your CSR if your MMR is obviously much higher?

As for people being stuck at a rank. I don’t think it’s going to make a huge difference. You will be playing a group that is tighter on CSR (ie. on paper) - but your CSR gains and losses are still going to depend on your MMR vs their MMR.

So doing well in a losing team vs a side with lower MMR is still going to cost you a lot of CSR.

Interesting.

Previously they would be able to mix and match your opponents to get a close game.

Are they going to match your squad player for player now - which would be unfair for the other players - and a huge issue for them as they don’t have the squad communication to cope.

Or are they going to say your team has an average of, say, D2 - and match against that.

Typically with how the MMR shook out, it used to be that the other team was usually concentrated around P2-P4, sometimes with a G5-6 and an offsetting P6/D1. Id hope that ends up being about the same. I usually do a bit of carrying for my team in those matches but rarely are the matches themselves lopsided.

I agree. There will probably be an upward or downward shift a few ranks for a bunch of players initially, at which point theyll just have a new rank theyre “locked” at. It happened to me when i went from 30fps to 120fps. Shot up from Gold 5 to Plat 5 in what felt like 30 matches, but pretty locked in at P6 now.

Just completed a Ranked:Slayer match. We didnt win but the numbers were more even on both sides and I actually had someone on my team who was on comms with me! Everyone with the exception of one player on the other team had more than 1K matchmaking games played. We lost by 3 after being down by 10 and taking the lead. Was a satisfying match, my first match of the day so Im just getting warmed up  Hopefully this stays consistent!

The proof will be in the closeness of the matches - not the CSR “evenness” of the sides (which should be guaranteed now).

But sounds like your ‘n = 1’ is a good start.

Which is great. But not a result of CSR matching…

Keep in mind that total games doesn’t equate to skill. At all.

Good luck. Unfortunately I’m going to be away from my Xbox for a week.:frowning:

Yeah I kinda figured all that. But before it seemed like the stats were completely opposite Win or Lose. If we Win it seemed like we stomped the other team, when I lose it seemed like we got stomped! I like an even match better than a “Steaktacular”, WIn or Lose lol

And enjoy your week off man, We will be here waiting for you! Are you going to be back in time for S3?

Sadly… I won’t really be able to play properly until the 20th.

:frowning:

My concern is that 343 are using this CSR matching as an excuse not to be more open about how the MMR works.

But people are going to lose their -yoink- when they realise that the CSR changes post game are still driven by MMR and KPM.

Even more so if everyone has a similar CSR.

I’m still not quite sure what they’ve “fixed”.

I think this will drop the ppl who manipulated the system to rank higher down to more appropriate levels eventually unless they keep “boosting” then will have to continue Smurf accounts. With mmr in the back ground I doubt there’s much change to be honest. Can’t get any worse then it’s been, been getting g a lot of players ranked much higher then they should be on the same team lately and it’s been really “killing” the vibes. Hope this stomps them down for the sanity I have left. Time shall tell but let’s hope

Every Ranked match Ive played so far today has felt more balanced. Win or Lose, Im feeling more satisfied. How is it going for you guys?

I’m honestly not interested in ranked. If I wanted to push myself to play more professionally I generally found amongst just about every game that the community driven professional set ups generally just do it better then ones driven by companies and devs of the game.

So ranked currently is basically skill based matchmaking and not rank based?

Played with my friends and seemed like it’s matching against the avg of our squad +50 pts roughly based on ranks, but only a handful of games so far.
