Ranked teams have too much freedom

Uhhhh yahhhh brahhhhh yahhhhhhhh.

Thank you for your meaningful contribution to this discussion.

It’s truly a struggle out here! Good luck.

No. BR start does not need to be a thing in every mode. BR start makes complete sense for ranked, but it does not and should not be a thing for social playlists. AR start has been the standard since Halo 1 and it should continue to stay that way.

Then we will continue to have a large gap of skills and search ranked, causing a variety of issues. And didn’t ask for every mode to have a BR start, just something outside of ranked for those who want it and want to queue with large skill gaps.

I mean, that’s fine you do you, but I’m going to continue to point out that concept is broken. Having no restrictions on groups in ranked breaks the matchmaking. 3 people in onyx should NOT be allowed to run with someone in gold.

Lol, then give us br starts outside of ranked or we will just continue in ranked.

See, there is a problem with that. As much as I hate how it is playing out, the multiplayer is free, including the ranked. So that means they can easily get a friend who is a new player, or someone they convinced to try. They could be a bronze for all they know. But that would mean they can’t play with their friend because of the low level. Now on that same note, they can abuse this, and get easier rankings for that reason. I know it sucks, but because of them going to ‘free’, they screwed us all in ranked.

Also, Hey Com~ I know you’re cyberstalking me. <3

This is what social is for - for playing socially, like say, with friends who aren’t your skill level. Ranked is ranked for a reason - it’s meant to be competitive play, not just sheets and giggles with friends, no matter if they do good or not. If someone did it for themselves, cool, but it affects your whole team and the whole opposing team, so that’s not cool, and thus should not be allowed.

I think that there should be 2 kinds of ranked - first for full fireteams of 4 people who meet before playing and play together as a team and second ranked for people who go in solo and get matched with their fireteams. In the first, you’d get a rank as a whole team, not individuals, in 2nd you’d get an individual score like now. No carrying of a bronze buddy up the ranks by an onyx player by fighting with silvers and golds.

Perhaps similarly modes for 2 or 3 person teams if and when there are maps that make sense for smaller teams. Still, they should be ranked as a team, not individuals. You could set a cool team name too, and 343 could sell you more items by selling you team logo emblems and backgrounds…

This is already in the game. You choose Solo/Duo or Open.

Just put a social playlist in the game that has BR starts and I will no longer have to play ranked with my friends who are not onyx.

I think this game is far more fun with BR starts than AR/sidekick, and the only way to play that is ranked. And I’m onyx but none of my friends are higher than platinum, so the games are all weird.

I don’t agree that onyx players can abuse the CSR system with this, though. I get 8-15 points for a win when I play by myself. I get 1-3 points for a win when I play with friends, and I only get more than 1 point if there was at least one onyx on the other team.

No, it isn’t. In open you can play solo or in any number of players up to the fireteam limit of the match type.
I’m saying, there should be a mode where you have a set team of 4 (or more and you choose from the pool who you play with) players with whom you play constantly and you are scored as a team, not as individuals. The open queue is still scored as individual players leading to abuse of rankings by pulling low ranked friend by high ranked friend. If they were scored as a team they’d be just average or a bit above average (certainly not as high as a team of all good players).

This should be the thing, I don’t understand why it’s not - either for playing with weaker/stronger friends or just to train your skills before playing actual ranked. Or just as a warmup.

I mean… This has not been my experience playing with bronze-gold friends in open queue. I basically don’t rank up at all. I rank up much faster playing by myself.

Now, maybe it’s slightly abusable if I were at my peak rating or over-rated and could no longer compete with similarly rated players, but it’s hard to boost your CRS very much when you are only awarded 1-2 points for most wins and never more than 3-4.

Low-ranked person teamed up with onyx will rank much faster than on their own, because of how matchmaking works right now. The algorithm counts the average scores of players in the team. This means that a team made up of 2 onyx and 2 bronze players will get matched against a team made up of 4 players around the gold level. Then the bronze players just need to sit back, relax and watch their onyx friends sweep up weaker opponents. Then the winning team gets ranked up - onyx players will barely notice it because they were matched with players lower than their level, but bronze players will get pulled up because they were matched above their level. They’ll win this way more matches against stronger opponents than they would with an even-skilled team of bronze players.
Also it’s much easier to get kills of your own when your teammates dominate the enemy team.

Every other ranked game I have played has a limiter on a rank difference when queuing as a group into the ranked arenas. This is the first I have seen without a limiter.

Ranked  Is  Not  Social  Period.

Ranked is the one game mode for us that want to take the game more seriously and depend on competent teammates at the same skill level to compete.

If you want to play with friends of wildly differing skill levels play any of the 6 social game modes designed to be played socially.

Sorry but this is nonsense. If a new friend starts playing Halo and has no idea what they are doing, in what world does it make sense to drag them into a ranked game with Plat, Diamond, or Onyx players? If they are that new to the game, they shouldn’t even be attempting ranked.

They could be a bronze for all they know. But that would mean they can’t play with their friend because of the low level.

In no way are they prevented from playing with their friends. They are prevented from playing 1 of 8 available game modes. There are 7 other game modes that would still be available to play with where rank is not considered.

That sounds like a really good idea. That is something that I agree should be looked in to.

I’m not against this idea in concept but I’m guessing that will make matchmaking really hard to find games for the full squads. What do you do about groups of 2 or 3?

Matchmaking does try to match 4 stacks against 4 stacks. If are playing against one it is because their wasn’t another similar skill 4 stack available to match.

You don’t get to make the determination if someone can or cannot play with their friend. They get to play, and because you need to play with people who are better to GET better, who are you to try and say no? Lmfao

I apologize. I did not realize it was such a big ask to want one game mode where I do not get stuck with your trashcan bronze friend losing the game for us. Again, 7 other game modes are designed for social play. We want to limit the skill difference in 1 game mode so those of us that want to play more seriously can do so without carrying your squad. Apparently 7 out of 8 is not enough for you. Don’t worry, you’re not being a total -Yoink!- to expect all 8 game modes to revolve around your need to “play with friends.” I’m so fxxking sorry!
