Ranked Playlists Need: Placement Games

It’s heavily argued that the 1-50 system is best for ranked play. I agree; it works almost perfectly. I’m not here to challenge it. I’m here to address its fatal flaw. When a player goes into a playlist for the first time, they start at rank 1. It doesn’t matter if they’re an MLG pro or a sad nooblet, they’ll all be placed in the same games. If you’re a good player, then no problem, you’ll just crush the scrubs and then be ranked where you should be. However, if you’re slightly below average or worse, you’ll be immediately crushed by skilled players entering the playlist. This makes it very, very difficult to rank up to the games you should be matched in and is extremely frustrating. My proposed solution already exists in Halo 5 and a few other games: Placement matches. 10 or so games that you’ll play before being assigned a rank in that playlist that will ensure you’re put with people your skill right off the bat. This will make sure that pros will be placed with pros, average players with average players, and nooblets with other nooblets, and nobody will be stuck at rank 1 because pros start at rank 1 as well. Everybody would benefit from this, no matter the skill level.

I think that is a great idea. Lets hope that 343 takes it and implements it.
