but in no way should mid gold, go up against mid plat, just like mid plat, shouldn’t match with mid diamond.

In an ideal environment you should only be going up against people the same rank as you. Unfortunately the player pool becomes to limited the more restrictions you place on rank matching. So they compromise.

i fully understand this,
i would much rather have longer search times, but be matched properly (gold 1-6 and placement players)
then load into a match in 30 seconds and get stomped out and lose progress and go on tilt, why am i on tilt? because the “skill matchmaking” let’s plats, basically pub stomp? instead of doing what it is supposed to do and match me as fairly as possible?
i also understand halo would never do this, because of all of the “WHY THE YOINK ARE THE SEARCH TIMES SO LONG” well you should have had social playlist, if you were going to end up not respecting your own ranked system. sigh man, i sigh
EDit: to make it worst, i have it on FOCUSED, thinking it would fix itself, like i haven’t been plat since season 1 -.-

And that’s why the ranking system should be 1-50. 50 ranks is a lot more balanced than like 6 ranks. You never saw 20s against 40s in halo 3. Unless partied up.
Being a Platinum 3 last season in Slayer, my first 2 matches of placements was against diamonds and onyx’s. Then, after winning 1 of those (and doing the best on my team both times) I get placed in Platinum 5.

It’s downright unfair. You carry your teammates who for all likelihood have never played halo in there lives and you get placed in gold or plat then on top of that play diamond and onyx ranked players why your teammates are still green…it’s outrageously unbalanced.

another thing, why can’t we see players ranks BEFORE the match starts?
in halo 3 (and even mcc) i would joke around and say stuff like (oh man they have 2 17’s?? going to be a tough one, because my friends and i were like 11’s)
it makes me feel alot better about the butt kicking i may or may not have taken, when i can SEE what i am in for, and instead of after saying "why??? did they have 2 plats???) after i already lost and felt like i have a valid shot to beat them only to find out they are way higer ranked AFTER i played them?

my thoughts exactly!, when i go 17 and 3 even with being clearly outmatched, and look at the scoreboard and see my teamates 1-10, not because they are having an off game, but because they physically can’t handle the way better players who aren’t even in their ballpack.
i cry a little, for myself, and my team-mates.
it is honestly night and day
just played two games,
one both teams were even, (3 golds, and one placement player) went very smooth, nobody got dunked on, everyone on both sides had decent games, we ended up losing, but because the match was super fair and balanced, no one quit etc etc. it felt even and like it could go either way. that is what the majority of “ranked” games should feel like. atleast at the lower tiers (sliver and gold)
and one where i went up against a team of plats, as a gold. myself, fought for my life and finshed i think 14-14
my team on the other hand, very negetive and one even quit.
the way matchmaking is working for me, it’s like it’s setting you up to lose.
MOST of my games the enemy team has least one high leveled plat.
again this should not happen in ranked “tier” play.
i get it, people have friends, oh well, halo should have added a social playlist if your friend happens to be worst then you, idc, it isn’t fair, and it makes the point of tiers dumb

All my placement match games were against onyx and diamonds… I’m probably the skill of a bronze 1 right now… what’s the point of having seasons if the matchmaking is based off of your hidden true skill instead??

Yes but the sistem has a record of your score and evan if ypur gold you can still the on a dimond and win.

well, placement matchs for a fact, are based off of true skill, but i am speaking about after you are placed.
i too was “good” 1.2 K/D plat 2. etc etc. that was 5 months ago, my k.d is now .98. if it was based off of “true skill” even more reason why you should not be matched the way you are. my true skill went down a long time ago.
Doesn’t help when you lose a ton of csr aswell, especially when a player quits. Nothing more annoying than trying to rank up and matching players above you. I’m a gold player and the amount of times i’ve seen full plat vs gold is annoying, at least spread it about. I don’t play much arena but feels like i have to play a hundred matches to get anywhere as i’m constantty yo-yoing no matter ho good i play.
I feel the pain in this thread. I got matched against a champion as a Diamond 2 player with all gold tier team mates. We lost…hard
