So I just moved to Platinum Blonde I. A small jump forward for me and felt pretty good with my gameplay. Next game my team gets steamrolled (i.e. 0-5 Flag). I check the stats. My team: Me (P1) is highest rank with all golds; Their Team: Diamond 2 (20KDA, captures, returns, everything) is highest rank with all golds.
This not rare. Last night played against a D5 and P3 while my team was Me (G6) and my teammates ranks were ‘unavailable’. What does an ‘unavailable’ rank mean anyway?’
343 Developers? Community Managers? Are you able to explain how these matchups outlined above are fair?
Now, I don’t know but I think I lost a ton of CSR for both those blowouts. I don’t pay attention. The larger concern is that a blowout game with mid to high diamonds is extremely not fun and unhelpful for me to learn and improve while a game of similar skilled high-golds and low-platinums where I feel like I can play well and contribute to the win is extremely fun!
I’d like to suggest that perhaps you could set a max value on the delta/variance between match made ranks. Then maybe you can tune that number until it borders on the edge of not fun.
Finally, if this will that some time (understandable, no issues), would you consider doing either of the following things in the meantime:
- Replace BR starts with Fiesta starts. If I’m gonna get blown out anyways, at least let me take a few pot shots.
- Copy ranked playlist as is (i.e. BR starts, same maps, weapon/item/grenade placement, everything identical) to social playlist so we can play it without the server issues. Dump the ranks, play for fun like other socials.
- Or just give us BTB Attrition [12 teams of 4] and then you all can really take your time.

Again, just to show the lack of rareness to the matchmaking issues. I just now played against a D2 and P3 vs. Me (now gone from P1 to G6) as highest rank again! Unless, ‘unavailable’ is highest rank? Haven’t figured those out yet. Steamrolled again, lost CSR.
So to keep track: I’ve played one fair game to get to P1 (yay!) followed by two steamrolled games to go back down to G6.
At this point I want to make clear I’m not complaining about the CSR loss or about my rank. I’m complaining that the only BR start playlist in the game is Ranked and Ranked is not fun. Give us option here. Anything.
Now I am going to play fiesta…
There does absolutely need to be a cap to how far apart players can be in rank. I’m D1, and generally team up with other Diamonds. I have seen so many times an Onyx player teamed up with Bronze and Silver players in order to get easy games. 9 times out of 10 we get steamrolled by the Onyx player. There should be an absolute max delta of 350-400 CSR between all players in a match.

It probably needs to be stricter than that, but I fully agree with you. I’m D4 and there’s a pretty big skill gap between me and platinum players, just like onyx players and me. 400 CSR still allows a P6 and an low onyx to be in the same game.
As much as I hate to say it, I think it’s supposed to work this way and I wish it wasn’t. The game runs ranks based on predicting your performance in a matchup. If it puts you against higher ranks, it predicts you to play poorly and it’s giving you the opportunity to gain a ton of CSR if you perform well, but you don’t lose a ton when you lose in a game that it’s predicted you to lose. It’s frustrating for sure. I hate the rank disparity from game to game and wish that I was consistently playing with players of my rank. I want the ranked system to work like other games with a ranked mode, but it doesn’t thanks to their TrueSkill system.
Yesterday About half of my games were decent in solo duo controller, which is actually a step up as of late. That was kind of pleasant. This morning 5 games so far all of which blowouts. How is everyone else’s experience these days? I think with even teams this game could be so cool…the way they do the matchmaking is so frustrating a lot of the time (redundant I know) I was actually saying yesterday was kind of fun
