You’re not exclusively beating up lower ranked players. You realize if everyone starts at the bottom, that means you’ll have easy games and hard games? It’s just that the longer you go into that playlists lifespan the easier the lower levels are, because they likely belong there. They also shouldn’t skip ahead to like Gold with these placements either. They should have some easy games and some hard games as well until they hit the spot they belong. We likely aren’t going to agree on this topic, but I felt I should explain this aspect since you expressed that you didn’t understand it.
You do realise that an Onyx player is still better than 19/20 random opponents.
The only way to spread the “easy” and “hard” games is to apply SBMM (random just doesn’t work).
Which pretty much brings you back to what they are doing with the placement games. And we know it can be done pretty accurately in 5 or 6 games.
And yep. I still don’t understand it. You know how good you are. The system knows how good you are. Just get on with it. Keep the “grind” XP based - where it belongs.

Sometimes i dont get the logic behind the matchmaking system. Im platinum 2, today i was teamed up with a diamond 4, a bronze 1! and a gold 3 versus 3 platinum and 1 gold 6 player.
We got stomped. Honestly, the bronze 1 player went 0/15. And he was not standing still, but it was clear, this wasnt where he should have been put.
So for me, it looks a lot like random team building.
Remember that “crossplay” is the only place groups of 3 or more can play. Chances are if you find me in crossplay - I will be with at least 1 bronze/silver and I am diamond 5. This creates absolute chaos. There is already a huge difference between some players in the same division - but difference between anyone who can get to diamond and someone who places in bronze - that’s literally 98% of the player base in theory. We would do this less if we had BR starts in social for sure.
When I do solo/duo I don’t play with my bronze/silver friends - so it’s more even for sure.
But I do think the game is also flawed - we shouldn’t be able to place diamond, probably not higher than platinum 1. When you get an unranked player - it’s literally gambling. They could be a beast and going to place diamond - or they are a bronze holding the controller for the first time in 2 decades that will deal only 200 damage all match.
